Cineworld… i thank you so so much. Anchorman is my 5th favourite movie of all time, so the second i saw they were doing noughties naughty comedy sundays at cineworld i hoped… i really hoped. & then there it was. August 16th 7:30. It has meant for a while now that most of my prebooked cinema has either been previews or classics. But i dont care, thats what a cinema card is for right? So lets go & stay classy back in the 2000s.

We wait ages to do a guess how many people were in my screening question & now we do it in back to back films… want to guess.. 15…SERIOUSLY 15! Im shocked im not going to lie, usually the retro films are sold out but no, this had 15 people in & i felt a little like the odd one out. It was mainly groups of Gen X & Millennial Men, im sure they saw me turn up & were like the fuck.

Trailers… Digger, Mutiny, Dog Stars & the Brad pitt & the dog one. all of which i will try to watch but Digger is the main one of those.

& then the film started… 100% of the time it works every time. Here is my original dvd review if you want more.

When he said the line Go fuck yourself San Diego, we all cheered. There wasnt many of us but we all went yes & then laughed hard. You dont get that at home with your dvd player do you. You also dont get a room of people sitting there laughing at a whales vagina in the bloopers & then still saying behind just to see if steve does his little jump when they walk away at the end. They did. & then we all got up & left.

Every time i watch this film, im worried im not going to find it as funny anymore, that its aged poorly. The cleverness of this film is that it has because it took the piss out of that 1970s news anchor vibe & attitude towards people (bears brining menstruation to work for example{also they had other women work in that building}) but because it is taking the piss of something from 30 years ago & that is now 20 years old it still works. Its outrageous & i still laugh hard a lot at it.

I know the end of this film is crap. I do. Its the one thing im like what the hell. But i think it has to end with something so over the top & a bear fight is such an over the top thing to do. & yet i completely forgive it for that, because all the build up with everything to all meet in that bear pit is so good & then with Vince Vaughn saying today we spell redemption RON is wonderful.

Paul Rudd, this is still your best work. Brian Fantana works every time let alone 60% of it. Someone full on belly laughed at the racoon joke to in my screening. That must be their bark twice in Milwaukee moment (yes thats mine i always fall about at that)

20 years later i still do not know how Brick got a hand grenade. That fight is still wonderful. Half of them break the rules in it but its bloody brilliant.

Also it was damn hot on the day i saw it… milk was a bad choice…

I genuinely could talk about anchorman for hours but i am not going to. Instead i will just tell you all to stay classy & find it on whatever streaming service you have or get the DVD out. It will still be as good today as it was 20 years ago.
