I do love an advanced preview, but this one felt odd. One Night Only i added to my hit wish list for the year & it been advertised a lot almost since February i think. However it came out in america 2 weeks ago & lets just say everyone slated it. A Rom Com with those two cant be that bad can it… can it.

My screening i would say was half sold in screen 2 which is the 2nd biggest at my cinema, there was everything from teens to old couples here to watch it, a proper mix. Mainly women if im honest.

Trailers, Verity (hmmm interesting) Digger (yes) Pressure (yes) Sense & Sensibility (probably) & one more but i cant remember what it was for & i know it was something is was like oooh at… im sorry if it comes to me in follow up trips i will let you know….BAD APPLES! That was it (took about 20 mins to remember)

& then the film started… considering everyone was saying this is the worst rom com ever, ive seen a lot worse.

So the point of this film is that if your single, you can only have sex for one night of the year, which increases the marriage rate & stops teenage pregnancy etc. Its very weird but is also something that i wouldnt put past the current american government doing at all. However i have a lot of questions that werent answered about the rules.
LGBTQ+ how is that effected?
What if you emigrate?
What if your on holiday from else where in the world & go to america?
What if you swap time zones do you get more than 12hours?
why not a whole day?
Why not then supply protection for free to encourage people to go out & meet people?
Also what if like me & a large number of people you have tattoos already in those spots for people to check?
& how does checking your credibility work with them? Thats weird.

I am glad though that there were lots of signs saying appeal this, we dont approve it stop the mandate etc That was very important. Some of it was a little bit weird, like price scalping for condoms & hand holding being legal but reverse cowgirl illegal. It just felt odd.

Monica is very good, shes proving shes got range & is picking very varied rolls & looks prettiest in her shirt & jeans at the end. However, ive seen a few films in with Callum now & he gives the same performance in each one. He doesnt do it for me & i also dont think he has the grittyness to be Bond. I know hes a favourite at the moment especially this week when the shortlist was announced, im not sure he will do it justice. I need to see him in something else with more bite to it, because at the moment there are better candidates out there for the job that are on the short list & arent even considered. If he does get it, which is looking likely, i hope im proved wrong.

Some of the situations they find themselves in are down right tacky at points & way to cliché they really are. I get that its a rom com, but there were a few points especially early on that just felt like well how can they run into each other again. The first meet cute is fine but then the rest are far to like oh okay.

That being said i did laugh. There have been a few rom coms recently that havent made me laugh that much but this one did have some very funny moments in it. Usually at peoples misfortune but still.

There was one bit that really pissed me off, there was a count down to the sex beginning on tv & it started at like 1min 5 seconds & got all the way down to like 32 seconds on the screen then cut to something else & then wen back to the tv & it was back to a minute to go. Which also movie, thats for scaring the shit out of me. I know you cant control when governments send out the emergency alert but 10 days before seeing this our government did for wild fires & i was in the cinema, so for that to go off in the film was a little bit triggering again. Cheers for giving me 2mins of pure panic trying to calm down & watch the film.

There were random cameos this film didnt need in it. I dont get it, i really really dont. It didnt need it, i didnt care for them. It was just weird.

I get that Pizza can be better than sex (thats the best scene in the whole movie by the way) however the pizza he made her was basic as fuck. Seriously i dont care if im not getting any at all (tragically single person here who this film clearly is like well your now never getting any by the way so thanks for that) Like nope im sorry i dont care that you made it in front of me. Its also his job. Would someone get seduced by me doing payrolls in front of them that day.

This is still fun & enjoyable. It does get a little bit irritating but not every rom com can be notting hill. There are a lot worse rom coms you can watch out there than this, it just needs to sort itself out if im honest. A few changes & it could be up there for sure.
