I was going to watch this on wednesday at the cinema then the weird film timings for next week came out so everything changed very quickly as what i was thinking would be good for friday just wasnt on on friday. This is what happens when theres a bank holiday & kids are off for the first couple of days then back to school. No cohesion. So i moved Spa Weekend to today, hopefully a funny way to kick start the long weekend.
There was about 14 other people with me in my 5pm screening. Two daughters who clearly were under 15 with there mum who had vouched for them. But it was mainly women there to watch it, that makes sense.
Trailers, Practical Magic 2, Verity, bad apples, sense & sensibility & pressure (i feel like im predicting the weather now with andrew scott the number of times ive seen this trailer now).
& then the film started… this film had 2 things that made this go from meh to okay.
So the first good thing about it was Goat Yoga. Like yes please. Im still sure its a myth & not real but they were all so cute & did cause carnage due to the girls going crazy, however what an adorable thing to do. Sign me up.
The second & im afraid to say it was the hot Australian Instructor, because damn! Im sorry im falling into stereo type here for this film, but i love me an aussie accent &he was rather sun kissed & handsome & a voice of reason & i felt for him a lot. & he was rather hot… did i say that already. Im up for that bar massage as well.
So yea those two reasons gave the film an extra star for me.
I did laugh, but not as much as i was expecting too. I was expecting to be holding my sides from giggling but no it just was oh okay then. I think it was because some of it just felt so forced for plot points.
So the awkward friend you dont like thing… yea i erm i recognise some of that in someone i know who i would like to see a little less off & there gets a point in the film where they are like no stop just stop & then at the end a reconciliation happens without ruining it for you. But i was like no she needed to be put in her place for longer. Like what the heck. That being said my awkward friend im like hmmmm i still tolerate some stuff. Although theres a few things i will never get over them for. But also why was there only one of them that wasnt married or divorced or with kids & they all then put all the bad traits on that person. Once again single people cant just be a normal person in a film.
No hotel would just let someone just crash like that, not one. Let alone one that posh or with a spa that they can just leap into appointments with. Im calling bollocks on that. Also i know she was like i can get us a discount through work but damn that would have still been bloody expensive considering what they did at the spa & hotel it was crazy. No way could a couple of them afford that, unless it was like 75% off everything. Also booked with such short notice what the hell!
The script got far to generic & predictable at a couple of points. Im not asking for Shakespeare here but a little bit more character development or story would have been good, it just got lazy & predictable.
Always listen to friends advise, even if its crap because then it will make your own logic better. Or maybe i don’t know go to therapy as well, because lets be honest in this film & in real life its often the blind leading the blind.
All the girls did have qualities where i was like this makes you a person who would piss me off. All of them. A couple lost all hope & would have nothing to help with redemption.
There was a joke about being Vegan that was very funny. But there was a golf cart moment that should have been fun which just felt tedious.
Well i saw it & unless its on sky cinema after ive been out in the pub & i see that hot aussie guy, i wont be putting it on before. It was not the blast of girl time i was hoping for.
