A Jason Statham film not in the January slot… what is going on? Wait i think he already has two there for next year so lets see how average Mutiny is. I recon this is going to be like all the others but hes on a boat. What do you think.
There was about 30 people in my 6:20 screening, mainly guys if im honest but then its aimed at that. Although the films doesnt start after adverts & trailers until 6:45 & 2 people walked in at 6:55 what the hell.
Trailers, Violent night 2 (so so down for that) The Dog stars (odd as its technically out today but im guessing the trailer package was put together for the week before its release) Pressure (probably) Runner (looked odd maybe depends what else is out that week) & Heart of the beast which the guys in the row behind me went damn at. Clearly they really want to see it.
& then the film started… I could save time by posting my other reviews for Jasons films here but no i will put some effort in, well it will be more than the villain of the film.
There was a new death unlocked in this film… death by padlock. Its a new one for sure, John Wick never did that. So that was interesting. There was a lot of blood splattering all over the place & a lot of death, so exactly what you expect from this kind of film.
There is one problem with this genre of film, yes its still entertaining but you also dont care about the bad guy. They are never charismatic or villainous enough & you know your going to end up with a final show down which wont be as good as the previous fights. Also you dont really care about half of the cast & if anyone else survives or not. I was full on expecting there to be a deepening meaning to some of the people on the boat, but no. they were just hostages or in the wrong place at the wrong time & i always feel that lessens it a little bit.
We also went around so many houses to link everything together & it took so so long to be like oh they want them for this & they are bad due to that & this one is getting paid & the navy is a complete coincidence ok. It just, it made you work hard for a very very small pay off.
Jason gave a solid performance as always, we could copy this paragraph from the last 4 films of his i saw. You know what youre going to get. Hes not problematic. He turns up, shoots a few people, shouts a lot, lays a false trap & rides off into the sun set when your not sure if hes alive or not. Standard. Plays it well. But he is getting old we need someone to take over soon.
Half of the film was learning how to run around a boat & all the good places to hide in it or fight with it. It also just assumed we knew what it meant. Like when they called the useless navy who were literally written in to fill time &turn up at the end & second guess everything, they tried to spoon feed us stuff but failed. We just were meant to know all the codes & shiz.
Every bad guy in this film, no matter what level, had a crap excuse for something, like mate come on seriously, get over it. It felt awkward at times for sure hearing someone else be like but i didnt know or i didnt mean to… urgh. Lazy writing at times for sure.
Also Jason at some point has to protect a child. Them be the rules.
Yea this was bang average as previous entries have stated, perfect for a friday night after the pub for sure. We just need to find someone who can take these films over now when Jason goes actually everything aches. They make money & are alright, & sometimes thats all you need in a action movie.
