Is it even january or february without a bang average jason statham film… nope. This years offering is shelter so lets se how he gets out of this one peoples.
I like fridays that end early means more time to see films & get home at a decent time. Always good for the soul. I will brave it one week & make a pilgrimage to crawley instead of brighton. This film had been out for a week but due to circumstances i hadnt got around to it. That showed by the only 8 other additional people joining me for the screening, for a little while i seriously thought it was just going to be me.
Trailers, if i had legs (seen it) Dont die (new same rock well ai movie looks good) crime 101 (yes) & there was one more but i cant remember what it was. Maybe cold storage… could have been.
& then the film started… well you know i said it would probably be bang average… yarp thats what i got.
Considering how full on the Jason Statham films go sometimes, i got to be honest. This one, played it a little too safe. Deaths not on screen, a chaser who was on the trail of them forever but was instantly forgettable, i mean ive seen people chase people in an episode of 24 to hunt them down & they bet more convincing than the asset in this. It just felt like it was ticking all the cliché boxes in the most cliché way of all. There was one death that did make you jump a little but that was it & that person didnt even really deserve to die.
Did Bill, Naomi & Daniel all sign up for another film. All the while they were busy doing their parts it was like they were all being serious & being in like a really high profile spy film & then we went back to mid action & an unsatisfying ending really. They were clearly only given there bits of the script not the whole thing. It felt like two movies trying to be put together & it made what was good lack & what was meh & poor feel awkward.
This film desperately wanted to create some of the magic like bourne did 20 years ago. those films worked this didnt, but it just lacked in its fights & shacky cam for no reason. It also wanted to be john wick due to something that happened & it was like no.
Is it not a british action film if there isnt a police chase or siege around a farm? its starting to be a little bit cliché.
What was the point of the snow globe scene, if later on when the film ends its not referred back to. It was stupid.
The kid was decent but she got a little bit irritating, but i think that is just how they wrote & directed her. Also we did but didnt really find out why she was like that.
I know we are obsessed with CCTV but to not that respect.
IT felt like it was written lazily, every time it started to get interesting or looking like it was going to go somewhere interesting, it copped out & went safe & boring.
Sorry Jason, your offering this winter is even more meh than usual, not enough jokes, not enough good action ¬ a good enough story. If this is on at 11pm when youve had too many drinks you will love it. We just need a bit more from it & you Jason. Next time change it up, at least the beekeeper was fun.
