Friday straight after work, & lets go see a film that for a few reasons i havent seen in the last 2 & a bit weeks since its been out but now have. Its time to go & see the Magic Faraway Tree & see if its magical & wonderous as the trailers make it out to be. No pressure movie.

This has now been out for a little while im late to the party so i was expecting my screening to be quiet. We were in the second biggest in brighton & it had about 20 people in there which wasnt to bad. I did have a whole row to myself though which i always appreciate.

Trailers The Mandalorian, Paw Patrol, Sheep detectives (i thought this film wasnt a family film so that intrigues me) Michael, minions & the masters of the universe. very family vibes for sure with these.

& then the film started… they couldnt quite make the magic they wanted too.

Epic Knitwear Andrew Garfiled. Seriously, so so good. Also he got sprayed with a hose pipe & sang & spoke italian… whats not to like about that. Although speaking Italian or leaning another language like that doesnt work in real life peoples.

Can i be honest, after the way this was advertised & spoken about i was expecting something wonderful & magical that filled the soul & made me feel all soft & made me cry. Unfortunately, i didnt get that from this film & i also didnt get it from any of the magic in the movie either. Everything felt over forced & like it was just there for the sake of it. It never truly connected. & you cant tell me im not a target audience (unless this is a book i dont know about) but i am a Paddington girl & it was marketed as the next version of this. But no it just wasnt.

That being said when Simon Farnaby arrived i did laugh & cheer. Its not one of these films without him as an easter egg.

So the two villains were not really villains, & we didnt spend long enough with them to care if they caught them or not. In fact, the only characters we spent any time with were the kids. All the enchanted people in the tree we were like ohhh lets meet them & then it became a little bit irrelevant at some points. Also most character development in this is undone by the end of the film.

There is a mute child in this film which i was like yay this will be good… oh no they find there voice about 15mins in… should have been at least the end of act 2 they found it. Whats the point of doing that other than just to show that some kids might be mute. It wasnt fully seen. I was then also expecting something bad to happen to make them go mute again but no.

Who doesnt want Dame Jude Dench as a fridge? Be honest even if it spied on us wed all want that. Connor 4 Real also got there before them with that idea & if you know who that is we can be besties.

The worlds are good but there are rules up there which then dont apply later on at all. Its inconsistent with things like that. Such as the one song no one cares about much earlier on in the film, then ends up being a big part of it later on. There was no consistency.

I get the morals & the story that we should all spend a little less time after wifi or on our screens & being connected but still, they end up with that as well at points. Also family time & being in the moment is important, but then at points they are so busy building their system that they dont notice their kids running off. Also you imagination & mind will make you remember shiz like that.

If you have a 6 to 10 year old they will love this, but anyone else this is a bit of a let down & not consistent to make it a good movie. IT lacks the heart & soul of the previous work. Stick to Paddinton & wonka instead guys im afraid to say.
