I’ve seen the dispute between the tomato monitors, critics have slammed it, audiences adore it. So its time for me to make my own mind up. If im honest im here for the music & Colman before it starts so lets see shall we.

Friday at 5pm screening was 75% sold out so much so that people sat together & then were told to move as people were in their seats. Proper mix of ages, the people in my row were like 20 & the people in the row in front of me were in their 60s.

Trailers, scary movie (had no idea this was back) The New Mando Trailer (ekkk) The New Hunger Games (ekkk),Super Girl (fucking cool) Masters of the universe (its growing on me) & Mortal Combat (if im honest im not bothered by it) but im glad that this was it.

& then the film started… as film critic urgh… as a film fan & someone who grew up singing his song… nostalgic & epic.

Lets do this in halves shall we. We will get the negatives out the way first then get onto what made it enjoyable.

You can tell they had to change their entire act 3 & had to do reshoots & leave a lot of things on the cutting room floor. It felt jarring at times & just like they suddenly had to make some things a bigger deal than other bits. Some of the editing was atrocious. But yea act 3 was rushed & just wrong on so many levels. It was painful

& then there was the actual script. There were points where i was like no one talks like that or behave likes that. Even in the crazy MJ bubble of everything. It felt forced & like well we need to put some more effort into this. & some of the acting from some of the supporting people in his family just felt half hearted.

If my memory serves me correctly there was no making of Billie Jean in this film. Its played obviously, but it needed more of a spotlight on it.

You can also so tell this is funded by the Jackson family & its trying to make Jaafar a star, but the fact that Janet isnt even mentioned because she said it didnt set right with her to make this, says a low. Jaafar was good, but lets be honest if they put him through the training & mimicry stuff that we assume they did id hope he would be good. It wasnt acting it was just more a copy.

Also was Miles Tellers character real, or did he just want a part in it as he was putting in some money to produce it? Felt a little bit lost that he was only in 4 scenes.

Colman Domingo will get oscar nominated for this. Since i have seen this film ive heard people at the cinema see the trailer for disclosure day going oh my god thats michael jacksons dad. Thats how big an impact his performance had on this film. I wanted to slap him & tell him leave michael alone so many times during this film. He got all the good lines & to be the villain of the piece & it needed someone as gifted as him to do it. Outstanding. IF you want to watch an acting performance in this film you watch it for him.

Anyone else notice that this is now the second music biopic film where Mike Myers has been a record executive? When i realised it as he looked out the window when he knew michael was a star i was like im liking this line of work for him. Now if he turns up in The Beatles films, i will be laughing. What a nice little niche to have.

There were so many little easter eggs in it linking to things that had been left on the cutting room floor. I mean i forgot he had bubbles. But some of it got a little cringy at times or was makign you think oh are we going to get to that point in the film, but we didnt.

Theres a part in a dance studio which is absolutely flawless. The movements & the vibe & the music & just looking at how everything was going down in that moment it did give him an aura. However the part of the film that made me smile & i realised my foot was tapping & was the first time i had to remember to stay quiet was the makign of the Thriller Music Video. He is not michael but that was the closes he was to being him in the entire movie. If the film had ended after that, id have left he cinema happy. They got that spot on & it made me realise yea this film is crap but im enjoying it.

It really tried to hammer home his innocence at points & how caring he was & how he was the victim which yes he was, but it was doing it for more reasons that just that for sure. The abuse & control wasnt nice to watch be it with the child michael or the adult michael. It wasnt a comfortable watch.

I really do want to know where it originally ended. What did you leave out due to legal reasons, or domestic reason or anything else? I want to know. I also want to know how they could possible make another after this for well obvious reason…

I can see exactly why the critics went nope this is rubbish, however as someone who then for the whole weekend listened to nothing but Michael Jackson & tapped her foot through the whole movie, it was a comfort nostalgia piece & you know what sometimes these films even with these flaws do put a smile on your face & you cant help but enjoy it, even though its bad.
