You wait for advanced previews & secret cinemas for a while & then you get 2 in 2 days. Yep. Today was a chance to see The End of Oak Street 5 days before everyone else. Which was really funny when they put this on sale as i already had Friday tickets for it so quickly cancelled them & rebooked for this.
Screen 1 had a decent number of people in it. It was mainly men of gen x age because lets be honest they were the full on right age for Jurassic park, there were some millennials & younger there but it was mainly guys.
Trailers, The dog stars (yes), Tony (yes) Mutiny(depends), The brad pitt & his dog one (probably) & there was one more which was horror based which i wasnt bothered about maybe insidious. Whatever it was i was like nope.
& then the film started… Im not a dino girl but the concept was interesting.
Anne Hathaway really likes to get angry &threaten to burn things to the ground at the moment doesnt she. Because with this & the Odyssey, its beginning to be a bit of an issue for her, but is also very iconic that its happened in back to back films.
Her & Ewan have really good chemistry in this film. Even when they argue it seems like its real & organic. They both bounce off each other & even it the crazy circumstances & how stuff can change in a blink of an eye it just works so well.
As i said at the top i am not a dinosaur girl, you should all know this anyhow, but i was trying to get along with them & be like okay that makes sense & yes of course they would attack like this & do that, however the second that snake eel like one slivered onto the screen i was like oh for fuck sake. What can be worse than a dinosaur or a snake how about the two put together. Just a nope from me i am not down for that at all. It can sliver off. It was far to long & quiet (epic scoring though from the musicians to keep it so quiet). So yea thats a major turn off for me.
This shows how little i pay attention to the trailers, i didnt realise this was like a film set in the 1980s, i just thought they were simple living due to having to survive with dinosaurs, but no its old school 1980s vibe which was a little bit odd, but some of the script had things people then wouldnt have said at all. Felt a little bit odd.
The concept was very clear & was clever. I can imagine there are some people who love these kind of films who are going to have the time of their life watching this. Send a whole town with no real explanation as to why or no logic even back to the Jurassic age & see if they can survive. However i think the ending undid some of its good work if im honest, felt a little bit of a cop out, like it was like oh people didnt like our first 4 endings so we will just go with a happy weird one.
I did have a couple of jumps from the dinos, especially the little bird one. IT just kept popping up & i was like for fuck sake mate, read the room, go eat some people. Although there was moment which had me laughing. Some deaths were a little bit graphic too. I was expecting to be more on edge especially for a genre i dont usually watch or enjoy i expected to be on edge a lot but i wasnt.
Theres a dog in this film. There was no mention of a dog being in the film & being key to half of it until about 3 days after the film came out which is crazy.
I dont know why we picked up someone else to survive who we hadnt really met to much before that point, that character also had little character development.
When the teenage daughter plays her music in the car (epic choice by the way) i was really hoping shed waste the car battery & it would mean they would struggle to escape, but no nothing happened because of that, which i felt was wasted.
I am glad i saw this & as a preview, it means i can recommend it to all my friends that i know love monster & dinosaur films. Its not for me but i know who will appreciate it & love it so i can make sure they go in & fully enjoy it.
