I know nothing about this film or franchise other than the memes online that were knocking about in covid & the trailer & thats it. So i am not the most qualified person to watch this. I know no lore or back story or if this should be fun or serious. So i am going into masters of the universe blind… wish me luck.
I was in screen x in a non screen x viewing of this film despite the fact earlier today it has show it in screen x very odd. I also felt a little weird. IT was mainly full of men. Aged from 20 to their late 70s. There were a couple of women with their partners but i was the only add one. But i did get someone compliment my Mandalorian bag.
Trailers, Super girl (yarp), Spiderman (yarp) ewan mcgregor & his street (maybe) & then the click noise happened & i sat & marvelled at the odyssey as i always will.
& then (after several you could watch this in screen x next time trailers as well urgh) the film started… i have no idea if it was meant to be that fun but it was.
Sir Idris Elba… i see you are using your knighthood effectively, well done. However one of the most cliché performances ever, he could have actually dont it with his eyes closed, but at least he got time to do shiz, in the Thor films hes maybe on screen for like 20mins total in all the films inc avengers. So yea clever move to make him a knight, i wonder which he got first.
It was very fun & cliché & cheesy however i dont know the lore, to tell you if it was accurate enough to be a good retelling or not. But as far as what i like to call a popcorn blockbuster, i was entertained all the while i watched it. Yes its not the best script & yes there was acting which is questionable at points, but i had fun watching it. I know there are people going well they missed this or didnt do that. I went to see it as a action comic book movie, & i had fun & i laughed for all the right & wrong reasons.
The Lion… it was weird. Also it was like a blink & you miss it at the start & i didnt expect the lion to talk & then it doesnt turn up again until half way through act 3. It also looked very weird, im guessing in the comics it looks like that too, but it felt a little out of place even for this genre.
Some of the fight scenes felt like they came out of a 1990s batman movie & the use of the super slow mo in some of them, was way way to over used. We knew he could hit hard & things were going down but it all just felt like it was trying to make it into a moment. Not everything needs to be meme able or the most talked about moment of the film. When he first gets his power is the best fight if im honest because hes like hang on & you watch & laugh along with them.
That HR meeting & desk life, so so relatable. I get that, i felt it in my bones. However i do believe our work life balance over here is so much better than americas.
I honestly forgot that Skelator was Jared Leto until one point in the movie & then i was like ewwww. Maybe its cos he was all CGI & he was easy to hate. God im going to struggle watching Dallas Buyers Club arent i.
I spent a long time picking up on things that i thought would be very important to the film, which werent which im guessing if they make another (which is unlikely after this failed at the cinema) might have answers for me. That my fault for counting easter eggs.
Why did everyone laugh at his mate watching & getting emotional at rom coms, also why then do we then just leave him after like 10mins of seeing him until the end of the bloody film. Surly take him to to have him go hang on what the fuck. Also that girl in the comic book store… so fricking relatable oh my god.
All his nick names for everyone on the planet i liked them, but still sat there giggling when JAJADINGDONG! man showed up to beat people up.
Also that girl from all the Tiktok videos is actually an actress? who knew? at least shes not getting on a flight 20 hours early.
Well i had a blast i was expecting to not laugh & feel awkward watching it but i had a lot of fun. It was better than i expected it to be. But if you want a real review go find someone with the lore knowledge.
