We made it to Z in our A to Z of Physical Media on 5th April 2024. Im putting this here because when i eventually post this review i want to see how far behind i actually am, but we did it. Its done & it took longer than i thought due to festive viewing & also now attempting the 100 cinema trips in a year. So yea god knows when you will get this review, i mean i might surprise you ha. so lets watch the final film in my alphabet.
Also posting this over 2 years later is also not good, once again 2 years of 100 plus trips to the cinema & writing a book, meant DVD reviews got pushed back a little so i am very very sorry. But i now have a plan of attack for my writing & its going well.
First of all i can hear some of you shouting but you’ve called it the wrong thing… yes i have, this is what its called here in the uk. I can then also hear some of you say didnt you watch this as a sofa viewer donkeys years ago. Yes i did this here is the review if you can even call it that, god why did i ever think that was acceptable for a review. I’ve probably put ore words in this paragraph than that review.
This film still to this day has one of the coolest voice castings ever… Idris Elba as the chief of police. Calling out all the tropes about talking animal films & disney & animation. & yes it does still make me laugh when he utters the word after his rant LET IT GO! Iconic.
If you dont have Jenny Slate or Alan Tudyk in your animated film are you even an animated movie any more? well actually. But you know what i mean. But i love Jennys character as the assistant to the mayor who actually wants everything to muck up. A sheep in wolfs clothing if you get the irony of that. In fact that is the whole point of this film. Never judge a book by its cover, be it the sweet bunny or the little lamb or the fox (no offence Nick but you are not Fink & im not just saying that because of Pedro {although when i watched this did i even know our man was voicing over a sassy little foxy guy}) sorry i digress, but do you see my point, they all over come their stereo type.
Except for one creature. The Sloths working at the DVLA! instantly meme able & wonderful & so cool & a Halloween costume for decades to come. But he does get a fast car eventually.
I do love that she does have like 800 brothers & sisters & that she has a carrot pen that secretly records everyone & ends up saving everyones lives & framing the bad guy at the end as it gets a confession out of them, however int he real world being secretly recorded wouldnt work would it.
The idea that the predators are all being stolen & are being tested on even in an animal world is still rather horrible. Also the discrimination against them once the rumours all get out are just so bad. It really is bad how some people are seen that way in the real world. You know what i mean by that.
The godfather parody… wonderful. Completely over kids heads, but as an adult… hits the spot.
Brilliant message to kids not to do drugs & be careful what they decide to eat or drink, you could be spiked.
If im honest some of the visuals could have been better, like that little town was adorable, but considering how some places build, you dont actual really feel like your going to to many other places. Its just a real world but with animals not humans in it.
Did the receptionist have to be camp & like doughnuts & gossip… i thought we were past that even in kids films.
Nick & Judy are a good duo but you can always tell that they are going to end up being besties & working together & saving the world. I would have liked for him to have tried to do a few more bits on the side before he is recruited by her or even while they are doing stuff.
We all hate traffic wardens. & weve all had bad ready meal dinners, its relatable.
This is a good kids film with a lot of morals for them to learn & a few decent jokes just for the adults. You could sit your kids in front of much worse, but there are better films out there than this for them.
