Spoilers well no it’s real life read about it people
I chose to watch this tonight before my own near death experience. After i saw this film tonight i went picked papa popcorn up came home & decided not to go to bed straight away. IF i had my cupboard above my bed would have crashed onto me & at least broken both of my wrists… minimum. My room is now like a bomb has hit it & im in my sisters room for tonight at least.
Right sorry had to get that out of my system that part was written straight after the event but im here now & ive now been to this place in america & im alive & well & its weird im now writing this a few days after another accident (again im fine people).
So sorry for diverting here so heres the review apologies.
When i watched this unfold on tv in January 2009 when it really happened i couldn’t take my eyes off it. You know man lands plane in the Hudson River everyone gets out alive, amazing story breath taking. I remember someone saying if this was a film you wouldn’t believe it. & now it is & its been made so so so well. One of the films of last year by a country mile.
I know i go on about my love of Tom Hanks but quite a lot but oh man this performance is just brilliant. I forgot when i first saw the film that it was Tom Hanks i got so engrossed in his performance & knowing what happened happened that it was like i was watching the real man. You just sit there going oh man oh man. & he was very unlucky not to get a nomination for his performance in this in any awards this year, he just was on point.
Arron Eckhart wasnt exactly shite either, he was fantastic as well (less so the mustache but he was on fire). I cant get around him not being Harvey Dent though, whenever i see him. i need to recondition my head for that. He gets the best line of the film at the end when they are asked if they would change anything or regret it & he reply is that he would do it in July instead of January.
I love the fact we see it from the people on the planes view, the pilots view, the unedited recording of the crash, the airports view the, the rescuers view, the TV view & the man on the streets view. It does jump a little all over the place but you are getting the information like the investigators did as it comes to you in order.
Its the fact that everyone gets off that plane alive in one piece with like 2 broken ankles thats it & that they are all off the river in 15 minutes of it crashing thats the thing. 15minutes thats all, in totla it was 30 minutes after they took off that they were all safe, amazing.
The best story of the passengers is the dad & his two sons who get split up getting off on different wings & they cant find him & eventually he gets in touch to tell them hes in New Jersey as he got off the other side of the plane & tells them he loves them & will see them in an hour. That always makes me well up (not cry but my eyes always sting & i have to take a deep breath when that bits done).
The cocktail he drinks the grey goose with a slash of water & to make it cold let chuck in some ice, which they make him on the house. & then he leaves $50 tip as they help him to see something.
The investigations they all have to sit through oh man thats painful (especially knowing they had too). You know the world is calling them heroes for saving everyone yet there own company want to sue them for crashing their plane. you can tell that some of the investigators just want to say well done but have to have a tough upper lip to do there job, you know its there job after all.
The cockpit recording is one of the greatest bit of film i have ever seen in years it really is(probably because it is real) but its just the fact that they have to relive it & go through it again, which changes the last investigators perspective of everything.
I love the fact that the end of the film they reunite everyone from the plane with the real Sully, with the plane & that they will always be connected & will always be there for each other. That a really good way to end the film, to say nah this wasnt just a movie these people lived it & survived it & they should all be celebrated.
Everyone i know who wants to watch this film & then watches it goes wow amazing film what a recreation, & all the people who stumble across it or watch it by accident all go oh my god did that really happen wow & they want to watch it again.
I genuinely could watch this film every day for a month & not get bored of it it intrigues me so much & i just think what a story & what a real life event it was. Especially now that i’ve stood on-top of the world trade centre & taken a picture of the exact spot he landed that plane.
Thank you Clint Eastwood & thank you Sully.
