2 weeks ago i had no idea this film even existed but sam rockwell time travelling to defeat ai… im in im so so in. & what a title. Bring it on.
the 5pm friday showing had about 30 people in my screening with me. Mainly men, older balding men. A few groups but they were also gen x as well. It was a little odd.
Trailers, Scream (nope) How to make a killing, The Tuner, Project Hail Mary & The Drama (im really looking forward to that one looks so good).
& then the film started… ooooh this over performed for me. This shouldnt have been that good.
Well i am never watching a cat video ever again, because oh god thats freaky as fuck. If im honest the whole film was weird as fuck, but yet it worked in a really clever engaged way, that always left you guessing but also kept you thinking. That being said i did work out the twist quiet early on so when it was revealed at the end it wasnt like oooh exciting it was like oh okay its taken the rest of them this long to work it out.
The flashbacks were used well. Some were longer than others. Some of the timing for some of them did feel a little odd. Also i would have liked a few more flashbacks to the actual mission they were on as well. Maybe show a lot more failed examples of it, especially when we got to the start of act 3 for sure. All those different attacks would have been fun to see, even if it was just 5 seconds of each. It made us care about some characters more than others for sure.
Imagine being allergic to technology & internet, thats really fucked up isnt it. I mean im sure some people kind of are. Like i cant look at my lap top to write this without my glasses. How bad is that… so yea it is bad to be allergic to technology, just the film took it to the extreme with one character.
Sam Rockwell is always my guy, but this role was so sam it was almost cliche. If anyone’s going to play a crazy person from the future its going to be sam for sure & we have been spoilt with this performance. Also when hes in the diner hes commanding & i love it so so much.
I enjoyed but got freaked out by the screen zombies. I get the point of it obviously but that was well & truly scary. I mean yes we all look at our phones too much & dont engage in the world but this is the very furthest end of it all. However have you ever decided to play the sims “for just an hour” & suddenly its 4am? Weve all been there.
The lack of help at the beginning of the film shows how bad we are as humans if im honest. I know its scary but sometimes you just have got to be brave & get out of your comfort zone & go for the risk. It doesnt always work but still. Being human is about the risk isnt it, the adventure that is life. Also the whole we can help change the tech future is really good too. We all need to be willing to do for others what we would do for ourselves.
Who doesnt love a majestical sun rise or sun set? Be honest… we all love them.
The ending i know has upset a few people, but i liked it, in fact i embrace it. Not all films need an ending to be a certain way & that makes sense, so much sense & im glad they did it like that to prove a point & to show that sometimes the finale may seem like the best outcome but actually its shit.
We do need to hold some tech & ai accountable for something & safe guards need to be put in place like they are for everything else, but it doesnt mean we cant work with it in the right way. It needs respect rules & barriers. Its an important watch for some people who i know wont watch it.
I really really enjoyed this. I laughed, it was an adventure, it was time travel, it was a race against time & it was really well acted. What is not to like about this film. Probably going to be my most underrated film by everyone else at the end of the year & were still in february. Its so so good & you should all watch it.
