Dad is just sitting on the sofa, there nothing on tv & im busy deciding what im going to watch on catch up as no one really cares or is looking at there phones or something. When Dad loudly proclaims you’ve got that new Bourne film right. I reply with yes, even though you didnt get it for me for Christmas which is our agreement, & he says well go get it then. & with that everyone stops & gets ready for Jason. literally Bourne brought our house together. Seriously. (im not going to say to the greatest hits am i)

So yes Matt Damon has returned as Jason Bourne for one more outting & he’s going for it. This time he knows nothing at all & is brought back into the mix by some old & new friends. & of course Paul Greengrass is back too.

Matt says about 50 words for the entire film which considering he’s getting a bit old now & starting to fall apart is bloody good. You’d expect him to do less fights but no it’s ramped up a gear & goes all out putting him through the mill. Yes his performance isn’t as good as ultimatum but considering he’s been away from the part for what was about 8 years when he returned he was still believable as Bourne.

Julia Styles returns too as Nicky for a brief moment as well which is really really like yes yes yes. She’s very good in her bit too which does make this an end of an era(we will get to that later).

Then we have the newbies to the franchise Tommy Lee Jones & Riz Arhmed both are solid so is Vincent Cassel as the new asset. But none of them are as cool as Alicia Vikander. I love that woman what she touches turns to gold & she’s the perfect new person to know what is going on isn’t right she just gets a bit too caught up in it.

So let’s talk about Nicky shall we for 3 Bourne films Jason hasn’t killed her for some weird reason that we don’t know until halfway through 3 but then it’s still not really a reason. So Nicky after finding out some information about why Bourne joined tread-stone decides to tell Bourne which in doing so triggers the systems to the fact they are both still a alive & b working together. Also Nicky got to much information so everyone’s after them. The race through the streets with the trains the riots the sofas the fires everything is mad. You see it from the sky from the assert from the police & through the CIA control room. & it’s all being a proper return to Bourne & everything’s going well & they just about get there & the assert destroys there bike. & then Nicky throws away her USB to Bourne & she gets snipped. Noooooooo Nicky no no no not fair. Earth to films you can’t just kill people off it was like m’s death in Bond all over again too painful & to oh fuck no now what happens. The fact that she & Bourne never actually had a proper real conversation to ever clear there unspoken silence it’s just heart breaking, & Damon looks really sad about it. He knows she will never be back in the films with him. It’s so so so sad.

Right let’s move into the fun but that car chase down the Vegas strip. The worlds most expensive car chase & crash ever ever filmed. Something like 16million dollars on a 10minute piece & that’s without the fight at the end. It’s pure carnage & I’d love to know how long it took them to do this & set it up & make it look so good & real. It’s an amazing piece of art & it got the film nominated for a bafta for visual & stunt effects. Didn’t win it but still. Watch the film just for that scene.

That long walk around the dock lands & cannery in Greenwich is so cool that’s proper back to walking around Waterloo time. & just the fact that you don’t really know which side or who to trust when it comes to this walk you just want Bourne safe & for more answers to be gotten. Alicia’s face when he just jumps in her van & says drive is brilliant. So is setting off all those fire alarms to get everyone out of the buildings for cover.

Don’t really get why we needed such a back story on Riz’ character he wasn’t a villain he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time who ended up being taken for a ride by everyone. Maybe Greengrass just hates Facebook twitter & the cloud & wanted to have a go at them all & see if any of them went oh my bad I do that.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a spy in one of these films before use the spy tech people are giving away for free that was a first.

Did it really have to be his Dad thats the reason he is who he is? i dont think we needed that at all.

The final fight after that car chase was genuinely worried they were going to finally kill off Jason thank god they didnt there were some close moments though so well choreographed.

I like the fact that even know she thinks she has Bournes trust at the end when everything is done he still stalks her & records everything she does. & then of course Moby extreme ways as he walks off.

It is like a greatest hits of all you favourite bits of Bourne & a good stand alone story as well, but i dont think anyone knew would have joined the franchise at this point. Its a good way to end it all, hes still out there hes found some sort of peace & hes back in America, to rebuild his life.

Thanks Matt & Paul for that encore, it was worth the 10 year wait (still not ultimatum though).
