Its time for the easter break, god i need a good sleep in for a few days, this week at work has been busy with the whole office move. Its been crazy but we got there, so time to chill with some Super Mario. I did re-watch the first one the other day so fingers crossed this is as fun.

Thursday at 6:30 had minimal families in here im guessing most people got al lthe earlier ones as all the kids are on holiday. Most of whats here is late teens. A couple have a lot of merch as well. Also theres some lush are out front here which is always a nice touch by my cinema.

Trailers Mando & Grogu (i can almost quote it now) Paw Patrol, toy story 5, moana & minions (they are still making these?)

& then the film started… well thats a step down from the first one.

Lets start off with the good things about this film (it wont take long).

Yea Yoshi was lush, i loved its little montage with the walk, & how cool it was. I always had a soft spot for Yoshi in the game (not as much as tails in sonic) but yea, i smiled whenever Yoshi did anything at all.

The other thing that was good was when they were trying to kill them at during act 3 & baby bowser basically played the old school video game & all the noises came from it, but i only liked the retro style to it & not the rest of it in the modern style.

See i did have nice things to say… but now…

Casting Glen Powell as a Sassy fox is fun however they clearly went right how can we outdo Fink… nah no one is ever going to be as sassy as that fox. He did turn up & own it but it was just a little bit oh okay. Like i struggled to remember to remember who he was in the nintendo world. I get there are some people going crazy for it but no not me.

Any character development for the main group felt far to forced & not worthy. Princess peach does stuff far to east, Mario at points just felt like he was just there & a spare part. Did toad even have a line. Jack Black was limited too (also no song what the hell?!) It just it just felt like someone was like quick the last one made a billion lets try glue something together for the next cash grab.

There seemed to be a lack of Joy or soul to it. It didnt excite me like when i saw the first film. There wasnt anything except for Yoshi & the babies that made me go ahhh i see that. We didnt get much racing, the running through stuff to get stuff down didnt feel like the game like they put in the first film. It just was there & i was like oh come on, make me smile please.

There was a shooting start part that was lovely but otherwise visually with the new places they took us to in the galaxy it just didnt look like an improvement at any point.

Im not even sure there was a real plot for some people in this, in fact i think we skipped act 2 entirely. It felt rushed & didnt have the wonder & enjoyment or even the stress of playing a game. Even the sonic film plays the panic drowning noises when he gets near water.

This unfortunately is a cash grab for families over easter, its a shame to say it but its true. I rewatched the first one the week before this & that was better than this. Your kids might enjoy it but you wont get the nostalgia hit you are hoping for.
