Best go see this on a standard screen then, there is nothing else out this week so its this or Moana again… ha. Lets be honest this was always going to be watched twice wasnt it. So lets go remind the people at Brighton Cineworld that i exists…
The 4:10 today on friday in screen 1 was 65% sold which is pretty good. Proper mix of ages as well which is good. & when i left there were a lot of people queuing up for the next one in that screen. In fact i could hear the noise coming out of screen 7 & knew exactly where they film was in the movie, (they were about to take Troy).
Trailers, Werwolf, Digger, Pressure, The ploughman & the new ridley Scott. In fact i think it was the same adverts & trailers as the week before beat for beat (probably actually took less time as there was no get you ready for imax video).
& then the film started… If you want to read the full original cinema club review click here, but i can confirm as second watch is so worth it.
I noticed a lot of Nolan parallels (or paradox’s if you prefer)
Death or Exile
You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain
Magic not explained
Not understanding it, but feeling it
Regret
Shores of your own subconscious
Musicians picked for what they need them for in the film
Cliff Climbing
Iconic final shots where the score just stops
Non liner
Hero’s to be trusted & not trusted
I mean im only scratching the surface here but damn im sure there are more i have missed im sure of it.
I am glad i saw it in IMAX first i do have to say that & i know some people will be like oh come on just go back to IMAX again, but im not made of money, im glad i get IMAX “technically discounted” with my cineworld card, i have to pay an uplift for it, but still its also the extra fuel to get to that cinema as well. Yes its even more of a spectacle on an imax screen, but i didnt feel like i well this is a waste of time watching it on a standard screen. The room still fell silent for the film, you heard a few sobs at points. It felt fine. The noise was still good but in IMAX does does shake your chair.
Knowing the story & how Nolan was doing it all this time, i appreciated the score even more this time. Like it was just this feeling which mirrored everything so so well.
That Hades scene… incredible. I know there is the iconic shot about an hour in with Aura Farming, but knowing what was coming when they instructed them to go to Hades was incredible & i had goosebumps for all of that scene.
Anne & Zendayas performances are even better the second time around. Especially Zendaya. Whatever you theory is of who she is in the real world & was she or wasnt she & if thats how everyone else sees her or just Matt, is incredible. Also Tom loves her in every universe.
I cried twice this time, the ending when everything was calming down, made me have to wipe my eyes. The same bit made me cry from last time as well, obviously. Id say knowing where it went made certain choices even more heart-breaking watching the film the second time around too. But also knowing that the horror show was coming was good to know, but it was still incredible. Its such a small part of the story but i love it. It shows them for what they are.
Now the question is do i go for round 3 or do i wait a few weeks & then go again… Because its like a drug, you cant just give it up.
Damn you Nolan you bastard.
