& that was that… but not for cinema in 2025 oh no. I just left my job. I may have sat in my car & cried for 10 mins afterwards but its done & come January i am moving onto something very exciting. But before we do all of that, lets head to the cinema & go see the housemaid, the trailer looks weird & it has a cult following, so lets give it a chance.
My 6:45 showing was half full, mainly millennials & gen z. The group of girls behind me were all book fans & were really excited to see it so i hope this lives up to their hype.
Trailers, Mercy (maybe) Marty Supreme (hurry up boxing day), the new statham film, crime 101 & project hail mary. Interesting bunch to advertise.
& then the film started… the readers behind me left feeling a little disappointed when it was over.
Hands up if you had a gravy boat being an important item in a film in 2025? not me. Neither was pottery, but i did laugh hard at it, such a simple thing but then ahhhhh. Yea im not sure i should have laughed.
From the first meeting, i knew how it was going to end it was just who. This is the problem when you watch so many films with twist & things going on, you kind of ruin it for yourself because you are constantly looking for things. It was then very satisfying when it did happen.
Urgh ar uperty people, there wasnt anyone who was well nice or normal in this film. Not even the kids. Everyone in it either looked down on both the audience & the film & then also everyone had an arch or trait where you were like i dont like this. I want to be able to root for at least one person in a film, but here i actually genuinely didnt care when we got to the start of act 3 as to who made it out alive.
I know its not all men but its those few men that give others a bad name & this film has a few reasons for not trusting them & wanting to stay single forever, because there are points where its just like seriously. & then you think of all your friends & how they all get fucked over by their other halves & your like you know what i picked the right single life.
Thank god for the moment stuff changed at the start of act 3 because honestly i was a little bit bored. The sex wasnt hot, the acting inconsistent & it just wasnt working for me & then we saw a twist & was like oh go on please please please & then i was like hang on this could get so so good & entertaining &then after some pottery work it got boring again. So it had a brief reprieve but yea then it went all generic again.
There are points it gets grim & bloody & violent & has moments of phycological torture, but if im honest its never shocking. Yes theres a bit with teeth with is horrid but thats as bad as it does get.
It wanted to be stylish & pretty & be a modern fem fatal movie but it just didnt feel right to me. Something just didnt click. I mean there was chemistry but it just lacked that spark to make it truly intriguing.
Urgh to dolls house tropes, its getting boring now im sorry.
Yea i didnt get this im sorry i just didnt. I know some of you are adoring this but its just not for me. Im sorry. I get what they wanted to do but none of it worked for me. Without Amanda & that one moment at the start of act 3 thi would be really low down on my list for the year.
