HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
& what a way to start 2025 off than with a trip to the cinema on New Years day. Yep, were not even 15hours into the year & im at the cinema to see Nosferatu, for a couple of reasons…
1) its horror
2) its full on
3) this is the best time to see it at 2:30 on new years day as i means i wont be driving home late having nightmares about it when i go to bed & i go back to work tomorrow
Letterboxd are all over it so i thought lets give it a go.
Well it was a mission to get there, it really was. So much rain, but eventually i got in & got parked & grabbed my coffee & found my seat as the trailers were starting. I couldnt fully see the age range, but i know full well it was all but sold out. An odd chair here or there, so much so the group of 4 that came in there was a 1 in my row 2 the row in front & 1 the row in front of that.
Trailers, there was a weird monkey one, there was babygirl, there was one with the house which is erry & there was the complete unknown. So basically a mix of awards season & spooky stuff.
& then the film started… & it didnt end?!
Bare with me here, this is going to be the most bazaar cinema club review youve ever read.
So it started off a bit weird, then meh, then it got really boring (a guy in the row behind was woken up by a friends at one point), then generic, then more weird & then it started getting interesting. Act 3 was about to start, for those who had seen it the Rats had arrived & he was back & it was all about to kick off… & then nothing.
so this film often zooms into all white or black which was off putting often followed by complete silence or an intense score. So the screen pulled out to black then the whole room went black & then plunged into bright light. No alarms were going off, we were sat in normal lights. After about a minute we realised something was up, so someone left the screening & came back 2 minutes later to say evacuation, everyone out. No member of staff came & found us & the emergency exit doors didnt open. We then all waited outside when we realised the Marina has a massive power cut, everything was out except for the newly built hotel (clearly on a new grid) we were then after 10 mins sent to mcdonalds & then the power came back on & mcdonalds wanted us all gone so they could serve again & then after another 10 mins waiting by cineworld we were told they were closed for the rest of the day.
I am a bit angry not going to lie, because a film i was only just starting to feel was pulled in it & i couldnt see then end of it. Ive not had another opportunity to see it as i dont want to see a full on vampire plague film at 8:20pm at night (theres no 6pm showing at all) & im now going to have to wait for streaming to see what happens with it, unless it stays around & it randomly still on when its the 18th. I did get some compensations & safety is important but still urgh.
Lilly Rose Depp isnt a great actress, from what ive seen in this so far. Shes just not on the same levels as everyone else. Which is a shame cos Dafoe & AJT & Holt were bossing it. Im guessing Bill was going to get better as hed really just been in the shadows being menacing so far, but ive not seen that.
The score was very chilling & had me covered in goosebumps at one point.
There was some lush cinematography of him waiting for that carriage, that was making my film nerd go yes peoples, this is what we want.
Dodgiest estate agent ever, i aint going there.
So yeah i cant really say much else, without knowing the remaining part of the film im afraid. Im hoping i can see it but its never on at a good time & as im now seeing other cinema club films in 2025, its not fair to just leave this waiting for an ending, like i am. Im hoping when i do see it, it get better cos so far its bang average.
