Happy Friday. Woohoo! This week has gone so slow & quick at the same time so its now time for a heist movie, which seems to have been advertised since one battle after another last year, but its now finally here, crime 101. Lets see if its stylish & cool & pulsating.
so turns out im not the only person seeing wuthering heights today. I picked this instead as this is the longer film & during next week starts later. Therefore it makes sense to do this today at 5:10 in screen 7 which i hardly ever go in. But id say it was 80% full which is pretty good. Clearly some names still draw people into the cinema. Id say mainly millennials.
Trailers, Dont die film with rockwell (im sold) wasteman which i missed the preview of this week, & cold storage. But that was it & there was minimal trailers so much so the film was doing its pepsi advert at like 5:25 which is always good.
& then the film started… ooooh it was very cool indeed but yet it just missed that spark.
Does Chris Hemsworth always now have to put clothes on a certain way? Do Hugo Boss have that in their contract? Because that was very nice to keep watching him get dressed, i am not going to deny that. He is still one of the most handsome charismatic men in hollywood. He can also act (unlike some franchise people) & he is completely believable as this robber but you also really feel for him. You dont want him to succeed but you also really do want him to succeed.
I am a heist film girl. It is my favourite genre of movie, i am not going to lie, so the idea of lots of them & trying to outsmart people in this film was very up my street. However i wish there was a few more or maybe referenced some of the past ones a little bit more. What i got was cool (that opening was stunning) but i just wanted maybe 1 or 2 more. Is that so much to ask.
Got to love a film where Yoga is mentioned so much to keep us all in touch with the american elite right, when your hoping youve not been parked in a gap long enough before your film starts that you get a parking tickets… so year expensive posh yoga is for everyone.
Unfortunately (like so many films at the moment) the trailer ruined act 3. If youve seen the trailer for this you can now work out how it goes down. It was a huge mistake to show that. It meant that as i was watching someone walk i knew what was going to happen, there fore the suspense & the oh my god was gone. & it was a trailer thats been shown for at least the last 4 months, & i try to avoid trailer rewatches for this exact season, i literally lift my head at the start of them in the cinema & go ahhh its that & then return to my phone (dont worry phone is away & on airplane mode for the film). We all knew the moment was coming so wasnt as tense.
I know i always say it but Mark Ruffalo is my second favourite actor of all time. He really is & he is the reason this is a 4 start film. No offence to everyone else who is still good at acting (although please someone give Barry something a bit different please) but he just shows why he is worth it. I also found out after seeing this film that initially the Ruffalo role had been offered to Pedro but it didnt fit with season 2 of the last of us filming & honestly im glad. Pedro is a really good actor but the Ruffalo… different level. Im also glad i only had hemsworth hotness distraction.
There were points of this film that got intense for a lot of reason, either due to something going wrong or something being off or a weird relationship, it had its moment where you were on the edge of your seat but it just then didnt pull that final punch. Does that make sense. Its like the film knew it was sophisticated & stylish & ready to hook you in but never had the grand reveal which left me a little empty. It had soul but it was vacant behind the eyes.
It got violent though, oh god did it go for it. For what at times is a nice cat & mouse tale it kicks off & throws its punches & lets the blood fly & the swearing out.
Be honest who hasnt pulled their face at a sleep tracker? Hands up? your lying. But what would have been good is if she had at the end had at least one ok night sleep instead of just showing the bad ones.
Its not always men but its always rich uperty full of themselves small pricks men. If you know you know.
This just needed a small push to make it exceptional. Its still good & will be really rewatchable when its out. Its one you can come back to & enjoy again & again. You could do a lot lot worse.
