When the internet wont shut up about a film & you sit there waiting for it to be released in your country months & months later & then when it is released they only are going to show it in like 50 cinemas in the entire country &the only time you can see it at one near you is opening day at 6pm & its in an awkward place & you have to pay to go see it… yep thats me. I am now genuinely hoping the Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie, is so so worth it.

Well at least its ticking a cinema off my bucket list. Dukes & at Komedia i have only ever been into to drink & eat, so to finally get to go upstairs to watch a film was nice. I love how they have kept it all retro too. Its cosy & cool. I believe they have 3 screens up stairs. I was in screen 1 which was nearly sold out & was filled with Gen Z & millennials which was nice. I got a free movie poster too.

Trailers, The Tony chef movie, the fact they are also hosting a Scorsese week like everyone else is, The invite, Some weird film about having kninky sex with people with Hoffman, & a weird horror film esk sexy movie (that looked a bit too odd).

The film didnt start straight away after the trailers, we has a little intro from Matt & Jay basically thanking us for coming to watch the movie & that they were amazed word of mouth & 1 film festival has meant theres a release in the uk & asked us to enjoy it. That was cool i like it when films do that, it shows they care a lot.

& then the film started… okay i get the hype. I laughed hard.

This is going to be hard to explain even as a spoiler free cinema review, it really is. So bare with me here peoples.

You know when people recommend 80s & 90s films that 12 people have heard of & loved, well this is our equivalent, because in years to come you will recommend this film to someone & they will go what the hell & you will try & explain it & they will just be like hang on that was funny, really? & youll be like yes batshit hilarious. Like i laughed so hard that my face hurt at the end of it. Its been a while since that was the case.

The friendship in this movie got me in the feels. Even though it was weird at times due to what happens in the film, but it just worked & never felt forced at all. They were two people who understood each other that have been doing this for years & just gelled. It was organic & chaotic, which if im honest isnt that what all friendships should be like a little bit. Especially when youve known someone for so long.

The time travel element was brilliant. Going back & seeing everything in 2008 was incredible. But then in the film they used flashbacks of the film as well to prove points about certain things & why opinions had been found. Life was very very different in 2008 for sure. Seeing how some things were funny or assumed to be a certain way. 18 years later its like oh god why did we say or do that? Why did we thing that was good? It really was a different world back then. It was nice to see it be so random.

The time travel was really clever. It even mentioned that were going to get sued by these people for referencing all the time travel movies, to which the answer is will anyone see this. I loved that. It really was self aware & then because its self documented its very clever that it talks to the camera & us & whats going on, acknowledging random shiz. It also pays off so often with full circle moments calling back to other things to show that actually that important.

Matt & Jay own it, they are best when they are together but also separately its a delight to see.

So there is a sky diving bit early on… were people in on this, was it staged, did they have permission? I have so so many questions about it.

Act 3! Fucking incredible. Im not sure were going to have a low budget film thats going to match that Act 3 (im saying that as i know were going to get box office blockbusters with epic act 3s in the next few weeks & then months to come) but seriously for that budget & what goes down in act 3… fucking phenomenal.

At the end of the say it is a question of friendship & what would you be willing to do for your friends & who you want to play the Rivoli with. Its an inspiration to not give up your dreams. Even if you dream is deemed small to others, its still your dream & those who come along for the journey are so worth sharing it with.

This isnt a buzzer contender, but it still got top marks from me. It was a breath of fresh air & im so glad i paid actual money to see it. It was wonderful & i genuinely left feeling uplifted & happy & full of life & ready for a weekend.

A future niche cult classic… it was perfect.
