Its been a long time coming this. Feel like its been on my watch list forever but its finally here. Its Mickey 17 day. The hype & reviews have been so good although i think the most recent trailer has ruined it slightly, so much so there was a groan when it was shown before a film recently by viewers. So lets hope its still good.
I went to the 11:10 am sunday showing. As i left my flat i was like why dont i go to the cinema on sunday mornings more often… Car boot sale. Took me 10mins to park urgh. Not good.
Screen 2 was a third sold which is pretty good for a sunday morning. Id say it was more people in their 50s but anything from millennial & above, mainly guys too (where are my fellow sisters & women this is 2 films in a row now).
Trailers, Opus, Last Breath, Alto Knights & Death of a unicorn. I will probably be seeing all of these for sure as long as my cineworld has them.
& then the film started… ahhhhhhhhhhhhh its was worth the wait. Fuck yes.
Well Sam Bell thought he had it hard 15 years ago. But at least Mickey knew what he was signing up for. I have just realised some of you have no idea who Sam is… go watch Moon then come back. Because yeah thats very fucked up indeed.
I would really like a creeper… Jellycat get onto this please. Because the babies are so cute & the normal size ones are sweet & the big ones are very infesting.
This really did show a proper class struggle between the wealthy & the poor. The uperty & the normal & how we as people less well off are just easily disposable not cared about. All the while we are helping them we are useful. The dinner party scene justifies that so well. There is so much to unpack in just one 6 minute scene, it works so well & shows everyone for what they truly are.
Its not often i type this, but i wanted to punch the Ruffalo in the face. Yea he was that much of an evil bastard, he so had it coming & I really wanted him & his wife to be put in their place (Collette also so good).
What was with the sources? Me & a friend who then saw this a few days later after my recommendation then both did google & investigate this. Its once again then back to class & status. But why did everything have to be like that… just ewwwwwwww very ewww.
Robert was really good. Owning every scene in so many ways, especially in the near death scenes too. However even though from the moment the film said it was going to be about humans being reprinted, if you were clever enough youd work out what was going to go down, but the trailer full on spoiling that was a bit of a gut punch. Unless you actively avoid all trailers you couldnt avoid it. It didnt give any shock value to the rest of the film because we could then work out what would be happening.
I didnt know i needed Tim Key dressed up as a giant bird, but im now glad i have that in my life, because that was so so funny.
I laughed a lot, probably more than most of the people in my screening at times, it had the right pace of jokes & seriousness. It worked out the balance so well.
There are some moments where because he can be reprinted, he is put through a lot of pain & horrible stuff which is technically torture. It also does quite a lot of talking about Morality or Death, so it maybe hard to recommend to come people, that i know can be a red flag for some people.
This film unfortunately wont be watched by some of the people who need to see it. With the state of the world at the moment, this is essential viewing for sure, but all the people who put their heads in the sand wont watch it at all which is a huge shame.
We do at random points meet some characters who are only mentioned like once more, & we dont follow up with them, & we have half a space ship of people that we never meet at all.
Strong teeth babes. Very strong.
This is essential viewing & has so been worth the wait. Its rather special. Yes its not perfect but neither is the world or people. It sets out a very clear message & goes for it. I think most people will enjoy this & will leave the cinema going we are so fucking back baby.
