& now for part two of double bubble wednesday movie madness. Although it nearly wasnt.
There was, im not even joking, about 300 people outside screen 7 when i got to it. Apparently there was a dragon ball z one of film that was happening on the wednesday which was going on in screen 6, so they were all blocking the entrance to 7 until they could all get into their film. Seriously had to wait for them all to go it to see this, & then because there were so many people they had a ticket checker there (which they never do) & she told me i was going to wrong way & i said no screen 7 & then she asked to see my limitless card. Oh well.
Another interesting thing was that the couple who left screen 2 behind me for beautiful boy entered screen 7 before me & asked if i was following them & i said no your following me. They too were trying to collect all award season films as well.
Cinema was half full screen 7 isnt that big but all the rows are quite long. God mixed aged category again. Did get a bit hacked off that someone 15mins into the film walked along our road & made us all stand up & then made her friend move one seat along so she could have her preferred seat & then asked questions for 5 mins as to what she missed. We all were going shhhhhhh at her by 4mins she shut up after that.
Trailers were Green Book, Vice, the film with Richard E Grant in which my odeon arent showing at all (have to go to covent garden to see it not happy about that), & Boy Erased which looks so good (doubt my odeon will show that either).
& then the film started… & it was good but it could have been so much better.
What a history lesson. Full on & proper & did go to some places you needed to go to, to get the gravitas & feel for it. But i think it could have been darker grimmer & more full on for you. You’ve already got a 15 rateing & a forced marriage, & rape & abuse & a weird period scene, but i wanted when people went to battle or rebellion or to argue for it to be more. It lacked the courage to do it & thats why its got hardly any oscar nominations. It was still good but not good enough in that respect, which let it down.
I know its Marys film & Saoirse is a really good actress but she has too many ticks which doesnt make you think your watching a Mary but your watching her. I’ve noticed this in all the films shes in. Shes a good period lead but thats all shes ever going to be & she also needs to have less tells in it. I mean she was good but again she did let it down in places.
Again i know its Marys film, but when ever Margot turns up as Queen Elizabeth she just makes everyone else inferior (pun so intended). She owns it & bosses it & i want to see her as Elizabeth in an Elizabeth film. She destroyed everyone. That is proper acting.
Jack Lowden is coming of age which is very good to see, bring on fighting with my family. & obviously Guy Pearce is a fucking legend & can do no wrong love that man. Was weird seeing him in period costumer though.
Too many council meets or rallys or discussions or board meeting or what ever you want to call them. If i wanted to watch that id put on BBC politics at the moment. I didnt need to see every single one of them debated in quite so much detail. Most of them lead to nothing or as they were about to get interesting we left it.
Amazing back drop but its Scotland so of course it is.
Its a shame really about this film. It was well acted & well presented but it hasnt set the world on fire really. I just wish it had the guts to go that little bit darker when it needed to, & then we might be talking about a film that would go on forever.
