The second half of my back to back cinema day on my half day friday & its time to ger a little bit festive with Christmas Karma. Its got a pretty good cast & looks a lot of fun (& who doesnt love a christmas carol) so fingers crossed this isnt a waste of time.
There were quiet a few people in my screening which i was surprised at, also i was the only people in my cinema without kids so felt a little weird, i mean it did start at 5:20 so maybe that was right.
Trailers, Zootopia, Wicked, the new toy story 5 teaser we just had & there was one more but i cant remember what it was for maybe paw patrol… oooh no it was sponge bob & it wasnt good.
& then the film started… well we cant all have cheeses for us meeces can we.
Now this is a kids film right, or at least family enjoyment with a new version of a christmas carol. We did not need to see something happen in the ghost of christmas yet to come, nope no we did not need to see that. Thats going to scar some kids if they see this. It wasnt nice at all.
Who had Danny Dyer singing in a christmas card on their bingo card for 2025? I know one of you did, it wasnt me. It was super cringe, im glad he stopped very quickly. Although if im honest none of the songs in this are going to be classics & repeated for years to come. The only one i have in my head at all for any reason is the main theme but thats mainly because it was played before every film in the cinema since the start of october for cineworlds festive campaign & that was relatively bland. Also one of the songs went on way way to long. I also dont understand why it needed so many songs. It felt a little weird. I get the muppets do it but it didnt need one every 5minutes. I think this also effected the films pacing & dragged it on far far too long. I was sitting there going get to the next ghost or song please.
Speaking of which all the ghosts were a little meh for various reasons. Hugh as Marley was very cgi compared to the others, the past was all over the place, then present felt like it wasnt needed & then the ghost of whats to come was bloody boy george, who got dressed up like that for 3 scenes 2 sentences & one lyric. What the fuck?! yea it all felt weird & like it had just been thrown together based on who was free for a week to film a part or not. It didnt sell it to me.
I get you cant fuck about to much with the original, & yes hte life lessons are important & it was nice to see it in a modern setting but there were just some bits that felt a little lazy & underwhelming. It was nice to see a different christmas past for part of it that you dont usually expect & how it was rectified later but that was the only good addition.
That festive fare no wonder they were broke no one was paying to get it to it & they had constant flash mobs.
Doc Brown rapping in 2025!
There is a lack of festive period films out this year, so this is your only real family escape, but if im honest your better spending your money as a family to go see one of the classics they have just all re-announced are going to be in cinemas for christmas than this. Its no muppets im sorry.
