For the second year in a row a film inside my top 5 for must watch in the year is out in january. Usually the bone yard of films sent to go die, but this has clever marketing . The bone temple (im not doing the long name) is out 28 weeks after the last one of the series. Thats epic marketing. So fingers crossed this is worth the hype.
New job means i can be at the cinema early on friday afternoon. So my 4:30 showing of this was welcome. & so it was to another 40 odd people in screen 1. A right mix of ages seeing it to. I am no longer going to be surprised at seeing people in the cinema early, as that is now going to be me too on fridays hehe.
Trailers, Primate (nope) Send help (yes) No other choice (yes) The bride (yes) & another horror film which i cant remember the name of but it looked weird & it wasnt the strangers part 3.
& then the films started… Call off the 2027 oscars now.
Five cinema trips in 2026 & were already looking at a second buzzer contender… what is wrong with me… well actually nothing, the first of this trilogy of them was good enough as a contender so this one carrying on that good work says an awful lot doesnt it.
Finnes deserved some recognition for the first film but for this one… call the oscars off. Forget Odyssey or Dune this man needs an oscar for his performance in this. He has logic, hes understanding, he soft & then hes fucking Batshit crazy. I love it. Seriously people need to appreciate this. I know horror (until now) doesnt do well at the oscars but please keep Ralph in mind when your considering next years awards please.
This film is grim. Id say even worse that the first of this set. It proves we are the monsters so much more than the infected for sure. There is a torture scene which is particularly hard to watch at points & i did turn my head once & then i was like no this is the point. Its not all nice & rosy out there in any world let alone an apocalyptic mainland. It was cleverly done & was rather horrible but its art & it had the right impact on me & the audience im sure. There were a few mutters of oh god no watching it.
If you are an american, please do not dress as Jimmy Crystal this year for halloween. Its wrong on so many levels & is rather disturbing when you read what its based on. Please stay away from it. Dress up as a Tellytubby instead.
Despite it being bloody & grim there is still a few human stories here which are so important. What makes us human, what gives us grace & humanity & what we will do to survive under all sorts of circumstances. Its beautiful at times.
There was some really good character growth in this as well. The interaction between Jack & Ralph was so good & toned it down ready for the madness. Only the then ramp it back up later on. IT was also nice to see a flash back at one point to prove something & see more bits from peoples past. Which leads me into the music choices. Phenomenal. Really bang on & clinging to that nostalgia that is so in at the moment. Any film ever associate with Sir Danny always has the best soundtrack.
The epilogue i kind of forgot about & then it happened & i was like oh my god yes of course. It was a nice bonus that we got it. But thats how good the film is without that moment & i didnt even realise i needed it & wasnt waiting for it to happen either.
There were a few good jokes as well about a few things. As brits we use it in times of despair a lot & it was cleverly done. Especially the bit about the bones being the doctors patients.
I like that there were small parts & sets from part 1 still used in this one. You can tell they were shot back to back. Especially the train bit.
Yea this is going to stay with me for a little while & im very very upset you all stayed at home for this & didnt get on board with it. Imagine watching these 2 instalments back to back.
They got to make part 3 i need more peopels please.
