If im honest my mind is on other things tonight. The weird day at work, the hard drive to the cinema, the potential end of the world which has been my nightmare since i was a teen if this war doesnt sort itself out. Yea my anxiety is constantly at an 8.5 baseline at the moment, so the cinema is a welcome distraction. Lets see if Fuze is good enough to take my mind off the doom & gloom.
My tuesday 6:20 showing has about 20 people in, mainly Gen z males. So i raised the average age for once which was weird.
Trailers, the mummy (not that one), Mando, The tuner, California Scheming & Mortal Kombat (they are still making these?) Only one of those is a must & you all know which one it is.
& then the film started… i can see why this film is a sky original unfortunately.
So after seeing a few Sky originals recently either on sky or now tv or in the cinema when they have a limited release, you can tell them apart so quickly. Its like they had an idea for a tv series, but didnt have enough writing or run time to make it last longer. This is one of the shortest examples of this, but you could clearly see that is what they wanted to do. However there is enough stuff here to make it into something longer than a 95min movie. They either had no budget which they spent on a couple of names who arent super stars or they didnt know how to make their money stretch. I recon i could have delivered something fuller with this concept than they did. The ending is the ultimate example of this.
The twists werent exactly that original or executed that well. In fact there was one character which was like oh we are speaking to them for a reason thats going to be important even though they are trying to not make it so. It just at no point ever shocked me.
Theres a flashback in this movie. They put it in the wrong place, it could have been maybe 10 or 15 minutes earlier. Because at that point i was like i dont care any more get me home please, im done with this.
The way it ended made me questions… is it a real story? I dont think it is. I’ve even goggled it after being in the cinema & when i got home & since its now been added to sky cinema. Its not. So why end it like that, by trying to make them real people.
Aaron Taylor Johnson as always is the best thing in this film. He makes everyone elses acting poor. What do they have on him to put him in this. No offence to anyone else in this but he is the only reason to see it. Sam Worthington clearly had 2 weeks free &Theo James who i still cant take seriously & isnt handsome &cant really act was clearly told he was the suave lead of a heist movie.
There was a heist in this, but it wasnt heisty enough & there was too much back stabbing & screwing people over & not listening to instructions or trusting people that made every time you met someone made you go well they are either here to set someone up, ot fail, or be betrayed or all of the above. That did happen a few times. It actually got to one point in the film when i didnt really care if people got caught or not. It just at one point became that people were existing trying to be on the run or not.
Some of the writing & stereotypes in this felt lazy & like it was written on chat gpt. It had no soul to it. It was made so that sky could go look at all these cool people in our heist movie.
I would only watch this again if i got home from the pub & was like oh that can be on as background noise while i scroll through my phone. It had potential, but ended up being bang average & i know this will be a film at the end of the year im going hang on i watched that did i… At least it kept the voices in my head quiet for a 90mins.
