Time for a friday night after work horror film, Silent Night, Deadly night. Basically ive not been to the cinema for ages & i want a good laugh & a distraction from the stress i have brought onto myself by leaving my job in the next few weeks. So this had better do the trick.
There were a lot of teens & early 20s in here for this. They were the main age group but there wasnt anyone older than 40 in there for this.
Trailers, Scream 7, Mercy, Strangers chapter 3 (i might get my answers) & there was one more horror based but it was nothing i was interested in or looked really weird.
& then the film started… I had low expectations but it was actually better than i thought it would be.
The lore as to why he has the skill is a little bit weak. I do like that we dont actually learn the full back story until the third act but its very clever. It also makes you as the viewer look at things in a different way. Not everyone is as nice or as happy as they seem to be. Also maybe sometimes the voice in you head is actually worth listening too even if its a weird one. Trust your gut.
The violence, bloody hell. no literally. It does not hold back. People you think are safe arent, people your interested in thinking one thing are then bad. Its so clever & yes there are some bits that are truly grim but some bits that are so over the top that after youve gone ewww gross you then laugh at it. My mum did ask me when i told her i was seeing this if there was going to be a chain saw death, im happy to report to her & you guys that yes there is.
The film just needed to include a few more actual slasher moments if im honest. It had a subplot which i got but at points it took it a bit to seriously which was a shame.
That Party with the “santas”!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Thats all i need to say. It felt very satisfying & was the best scene of the entire movie by a long long way. Nothing will beat that in it. Its not often you cheer on a specific serial killer is it.
The cast were all a little weak im not going to lie. I know its a small budget & thats part of the charm of it but there were a few people in this who had a few lines who did look like this was their first acting job, that main 2 & the voice over did carry it, but yea there were a few people who were a little questionable.
By the time it started giving out exposition on the advent calendar if im honest (& that is one grim calendar by the way) i had actually given up caring & was rolling with the vibe of it instead.
It could have been a lot worse & im sure it could have been even grimmer, but it just was there & was a fun time. Im not sure i was meant to laugh that much but sometimes you just need an alternative christmas film.
