WE DID IT WITHOUT TRYING! well you know what i mean but ITS CINEMA CLUB FILM 100 OF 2025!!!!!!!!!!!!EKKKK
& i on purpose picked Wicked for Good. Its the last of my 5 must watch of the year, if its a buzzer contender it makes it a golden year & also then means i can pick the film of the year as ive been waiting for this to do it.
However it did take forever to get to imax today, bloody hell. I was booked in for the 12:30 but no traffic was horrific & it took me an hour to get out of lancing which is crazy, then i had to do 2 petrol stops one to get me out one when i got somewhere cheap. But we got there eventually. I mean i didtn have to go to imax but why not.
My screening for 12:30 id say was 40% full from what i could see & the people i saw come in & leave from my seat. It was impressive. Mainly older people if im honest. A few people like me who had gone to see it when we should have been at work. I did book to day as leave though as im going away at the weekend.
Trailers, 28 years later the bone temple (for imax screen obviously), avatar, marty supreme, mando & grogu (finally), zootopia & the house maid. Its weird when its a 12a they want to advertise kids films but they also want to show off whats going to be in imax soon.
& then the film started… ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
(fyi i need to say some of this was written before the awards nominations came in)
I get why people all kicked off that this was not as fun. However if youve seen the musical or know the lore behind it, what were you expecting sunshine & rainbows again. Act 2 is dramatically different to act 1 & if you came out of this going what the hell, then you didnt understand it. This is meant for all millennials who saw the play. But also you all need to remember these were all filmed at the same time as well & you can tell that the performances are so much more mature.
I cried a lot. I knew it was going to happen as well & i thought i had enough tissues but no i didnt, & im gutted about that. The door scene in particular, painful & beautiful. It really got me. For Good always gets me to so so hard. Also the fact that ive since heard that the door scene someone said in editing it wasnt needed… that person needs firing from ever making movies ever again. Its to important to leave on the floor. Also the last image of the entire movie… fuck a duck. I thought i was done but no.
Ariana is the star in this. She is she needs an oscar nomination for this again. I mean everyone was good but this was so her acting & not being all fluffy & sunshine & sweetness in part 1 she had to deal with shit & she was incredible. I loved every second she was on the screen. Lets give her an actual acting job next please.
The new songs, interesting. I get they are to get Cynthia her EGOT but i dont think they will win when there is Golden out there, hindsight is a brilliant thing isnt it. I mean every song matched the right vibes, some sent goosebumps up your arms & a shiver down you spine. But im not sure the new songs really added to much to it if im honest.
Hands up if you now want a sex cardigan? I mean if it comes with Jonathan Bailey taking those braces off in such a seductive way then yes please we all want that. It was rather yummy to see him do that, that was to get our pluses racing for sure.
Colman as the cowardly lion had all of 4 lines which was a shame, i mean i get its not dorothys story its the witches but still, such a shame to waste him on just a few sentences. Especially with the big reveal they did on social media. I thought we would get more.
Will Jeff Goldblum ever now not play a version of himself? I mean it is always iconic but can he play anything else now…
I love that we never fully see dorothys face at all. Its so clever, even at the iconic moments, no face time at all, always shot from the back or her feet or the shadow. I lvoe that they made that chase, instead of pressuring a kid for the rest of their life. I mean the girl has since been named but still it gave her a chance to be anonymous.
It was darker, moodier & more disturbing but we also so a lot more emotion & more rational explanations for the characters.
Clock-Tick… yea that did get on my nerves, its like trying to get FETCH to happen if that makes sense. I know they always much up the words in this but still that was the one that hacked me off a bit.
Madam Morrible had liek 8 jobs in this film. Seriously go check. She is so many different things she does in this movie. Someone actually said online, did they run out of budget & just have to make her to all those things. Shes a witch of all trades.
Most of the reveals happen at the end which is good so if you dont know the lore or the play its very clever that it is still then all explained right at the end. They didnt move anything to much further forward than they had to.
I want that bubble to take me everywhere. Even though i identify as an Elphaba more, i want that. It looked so cool.
It will be a good idea to watch part one or do a catch up before it of what you need to know. I can see why people this its long but it so makes sense to do it this way.
If you love the play & the original story you are very happy to have this yes this & the other film together are over 5hours long, but the more time for character development helps. Its so clever & cool & i had an amazing time & its a buzzer contender for sure for film of the year.
This also means that this year is a golden year. All 5 of my must watch films of 2025 have all been contenders, guess its time to pick a film of the year then…
