Every year i pick my list of 32 to see, this film was film 32, & honestly i wasnt sure about it at all until i saw that first trailer & then i was like ok you understand the idea here, so here we are in 2025, 30 years later ready for the 4th naked gun movie.
I was the youngest person in my screening, everyone else was at least mid 40s, but it was 70% sold for a friday at 6:10 which is pretty damn good.
Trailers, The Roof man (im in) The Roses (yes) Materialists (love seeing this & going well actually) Spinal Tap (had no idea about that) & there was one more but i cant remember what it was.
& then the film started… a laugh every 3 mins, i will say thats a win.
Yea my face hurt from laughing. It made the jokes good, but also honoured the original. It tried to do some jokes but made them modern but still in keeping with what we already had before. Thats how you get away with them in 2025. Yes weve seen some of them in other films in movie history but it was done in a refreshing way. Some bits down right ridiculous & just for the sake of it but that was always what the naked gun films were about.
So funny to see Liam with his “set of skills” having to use them in a new way. You could tell that he & everyone else on set was having so much fun making this. So much so at one point he goes well that was awesome, & i wasnt sure if it was meant to be left in or not.
Can we also please give a lot of love to Pam, dont see her for donkeys years & then in 1 year delivers 2 completely different ones. She bosses it & is more than just a love interest, yes that is why shes there but she gets more of a story than Pricilla did in the first & second films of the original trilogy.
P.L.O.T Device! Monday we had McGuffinite Friday we have a Plot Device! What a week for film nerds. Loved it & it was so early on too. & then that ended up leading us into a budget version of the first kingsman movie, loved it. We actually had a decent villain too. HE played it up & from the second you met him like with the films in the past you knew he was the bad guy there was no sub tease or whatever, hes the bad guy & your not going to like him & you will laugh at his eventual misfortune & being made a buffoon of. also TUMMY!
The joke about the grabber from the arcade was brilliant. The other one that constantly stood out which was subtle but so obvious was the coffee cups & drinking them & them being everywhere i loved it.
Police Squad must be the most curse place to work because they are always threatened with being shut down or closed & i love that this kept it going.
There were some cameos you expected & some you just didnt & some that then made such sense & some that were so bat shit & random but still worked because why not. All im going to say is Al is back…
A music video montage in the middle of the film, now that is proper retro. I dont think the group behind me had seen or had forgotten that bit in the first film but you could tell who got it the moment it started as parts of the room started sniggering. It was so cleverly done.
Theres always an over the top act 3 with these films & this one didnt buck the trend. Also got to love an owl.
Please also stay for the credits, because they are fun to. It not like waiting for doctor strange to turn up but its going to make you smile so much. Also its a short film in 89 minutes including the credits so its not like yovue been sat there for 2 hours.
We didnt have the initial red light scroll that was a downer, i was hoping for that but no. Thats the only thing they missed.
So it ticked most of my boxes, yes some bits are stolen from other movies or are just played for a joke that we already got 2 versions ago but that was what the original films were all about too & to try & recreate that in a “woke” 2025 without pissing lots of people off is bloody good. It made me smile & laugh i couldnt ask for anything more.
