This is it the last DVD film of 2023. What are the odds that it will take me longer to write this review in time that the actual film itself at 32 minutes & 7 seconds? Im going yes. But this year had to end with our softie, so here we go, heres the strange way of life spoiler review.
Also im saying sorry now because i will thirst… i mean… if youve seen it you will understand.
I still want another 20 to 30 minutes of this film please. I know its weird to start a review with that but i do. I want more about what happened in Mexico 25 years ago, & i need the final show down which if you watched the Q&A interview afterwards, told you how the story ended. 10 or 15 mins more adding both those parts & i would be sitting here going its a master piece.
Ethan is sublime. I really hated him at points. Ive been watching a few films recently with him in & hes been delivering a lot. Why its taken me so long to get into his acting. I have no idea. I need to watch all the before films because everyone on letterboxd keeps going on about them.
& then theres Pedro… our man… Oh i know im going to thirst in a minute, however every now & then you sit there & watch him & go yea he can fucking act i forgot that. We are to much blinded but our little softie that then he turns up in a film or tv show & completely owns it & bosses it & you go oh fuck i forgot he could do this. Hes more than just a humble guy hes so good.
The act off in the bedroom is phenomenal. Its insane, the anger & frustration but also the emotions on display. This takes up all of act 2 & oh god. ITs 15minutes of drama & its such compelling viewing. You genuinely feel that Jake might kill Silva but you know he just cant & it adds to the stress of it all. Is he going to really kill him or his son? was it just a fling? was it more than that? is he going to bribe him? so much stuff goes down from the moment he wakes up to then leaving.
Okay i tried to put it off for as long as i could but as ive said he wakes up…well then… its time. Our man is starfished across the top of that bet with his peach out & my it look extra peachy. Im sorry but it does & i was very calm in the cinema. I was glad that was spoiled in advance i really was because if i had been bombarded with that in the cinema i might have screamed. So i did sit here watching this & rewound it after seeing it again & screamed. It is rather delicious & then he stands up & his shirt only just about covers him for a good like 2 mins & the way he holds Ethan. Damn. Just Damn. It gets very hot looking at that.
The dinner scene & the sexual tension is insane.
when Jake says dont look at me like that… mate the world wants Pedro Pascal to look at them like that for 3 seconds. Those big brown puppy dog eyes being all beautiful & his lip trembling going how do you want me to look at you… Fuck a duck! Its insane. & then when he gets up the camera goes down him & the kiss that happens but doesnt that weve since seen the alternative take of online which is so bloody sexy. I know why they stopped i get it, but damn it was fucking hot. I want to do that to him as well.
& then Silva having to pick his son or his ex is insane. & the fact he picks his son is like ahhhhhh & then he tends to Jake once he shoots him. I get that blood is thicker than water btu ahhh. Also the clean shot so it doesnt kill him & he spends weeks looking after him awwwwwwwww.
The flash back just ensued it was 1 night of desire, but if im honest, i would too, they were both bloody hot even younger & if you wanted to drink all that wine why not indulge in the finest men in the world. Those girls are properly hacked off none of them want to make out with them.
No wonder Pedro’s back is killing him. He spent most of 2021 & 2022 sleeping or laying down on floors without proper support. Bless him. More sleeping in the desert this time.
It is the bedroom act off though that is the heart & soul of this film, as much as we can sit here & get all giddy when Silva says he would be a dead half naked man smelling of the sheriffs cum is a huge holy fucking shit did he just say that moment. It pisses him off beyond belief & its makes them both angry.
Its a good film, but its far too short. I know ive thirsted for most of this review, but can you blame me when that mans bum looks that good? nope didnt think so. Theres not mush else to say about a short if im honest.
I hope this picks up an oscar nomination (well by the time you all read this whenever its posted you will all know {FYI it didnt}).
