So this has been slated, but you know dont judge a book by its cover or a haunted mansion via a handful of critics. So lets see what the new disney version of the Haunted Mansion has to say for itself. Hope fully at least a WOW… if you know you know.
I saw this on the wednesday 5:10 showing. & there was about 30 people in my screening with me. Mainly teenagers on their summer holiday. I did feel a little old for this.
I would like to say thank you very much to cineworld. The day before was 3 years since i joined Cineworld & i tweeted them saying ahhhh this is fun so far. & low & behold about 90mins later, i had a voucher for a free regular popcorn, so cheers for that cineworld, really appreciated. A nice little treat.
Trailers, Strays (which im seeing tomorrow) Blue Beetle (maybe) & i cant remember what the other 2 were, sorry i really cant. I know one of them seemed generic & i was like nop no thank you.
& then the film started… oh disney oh no no no… your intro for your birthday was more impressive than that film
Im all up for people not living up to the stereotypes they have been given but if ever there was a point for Owen Wilson to go WOW even sarcastically to pay something off, it was this film. & did we get one… nope. Not one. Not even a hint. I was livid if im honest. I was like seriously. Especially as hes kind of disney property at the moment. Hes about to appear in your big arse TV show for Loki season 2 & he doesnt even once go Wow in a film about the super natural? Im sorry disney you dropped the game right there.
Tiffany Haddish is the best part of the film. Okay she had the most weird character, but every time she comes up with something random or crazy or weird it made me smile. Thats what i want in this film, it really is. Danny DeVito too was a delight. His eagerness to get into that house is insane, i love it. HEs the only one who wants to be there.
Lakeith Stanfield is a good lead, however hes in a house hes trying to escape from. He first came to my attention in the film get out. So every time shit was going down with him i was like mate get out get out please. My own internal mind was thinking of more fun things than the film was giving me.
I felt like other than 2 or 3 ghosts we didnt really get to know any ghost & i was a bit gutted by that. IT would have been more fun. I mean i get that they wanted to sort it all out & get them gone or coexist but when we got to act 3, i didnt care what happened to most of the ghosts. I think you should know them, they are the McGuffin, we should care about it.
Leto was not good. Im sorry he wasnt. He as the villain was just like what the heck. I needed more. His ghost wasnt even that scary & his character back story just isn’t connect or make me concerned also we found out about it all far too late that it then made act 3 rushed & out of place. I wanted to really hate him but the film didnt give me the time to build up the hate for him.
I think i slightly jumped once. I know its meant for younger people, but i dont do horror. I dont like jump scares (i still jump to this day at the body hitting the window in the Dark Knight) but yea one like ahhhh moment in it.
Why did disney think they need to reboot this? Im not sure why? I mean the last one wasnt that fab but it was like really? Also why pick this as the release date? In amongst Barbie & Oppenheimer. Put it at the end of september so i can run in October for spooky & pumpkin season. Its like they set it up to fail, & i hate when film studios do that so so much.
This had a bankable cast, it really did. All huge stars with big projects about to start or end. & disney just missed the mark on it. It was almost like it was there to remind you that Loki & Ahsoka start soon.
This had so much potential, & could have been dark & scary (even more for the target audience) but it just didnt work. The bits that did work were the comedy parts, but they were far & few between. Not good disney. Are you dropping the ball at the moment…
