When Craig announced he was coming back to do one more in Jan 2018 i wrote a piece about needed to know the next Bond almost straight after the film came out & that i was looking forward to him being Bond on my 30th Birthday in 2019. Danny Boyle then said he would direct then left, then Craig got injured & then the pandemic happened. So what was originally stated as a October 2019 film is actually September 2021, the first trailer has been out for 2 years. So this has been a very long time Bond & Broccoli, it had better be worth the wait.
I decided to treat my parents to this at one of our local cinemas. They helped my decorate & have taken me out for food a bit recently so i thought the minimal way to say thank you would be to treat them to this. So we went to the Connaught & sat there ready to enjoy the splendours of Bond. Opening Day & Friday was Sold out, Saturday, Sunday & monday they or i was busy so that meant tuesday night was our first opportunity to see it.
It was still pretty packed. I tried to buy us a box online but they were all sold out. Lots of families tho with little kids to big kids to adult kids like me. Every age, sex, ethnicity that Worthing has to offer was there. Right down the front wasnt sold out but all of the top was.
Trailers were lots of local stuff thats going on & coming to the theatre soon, plus Ghostbusters, the Last Duel & The French Dispatch (dad was like the hell was that & i said thats Wes Anderson & he went ah fair enough).
& then the film started… & thats my review people…. joking… not really tho. This is going to be very hard to review & discus without spoiling it because you want everyone to go in there with not much more knowledge than the trailers at all (& if im honest the trailers give away bits they shouldnt do).
This isnt a Bond film, this is a love letter to Daniel Craig & what he has brought to the character & to the film industry. It is. Once you get your head around that which i took me a while to do you can enjoy it for that. Which is why i will be going to the cinema again to see it to enjoy it more. Ive just been at my parents today, which is the first time ive seen them since tuesday & my mum said you know what i never understood why you go & see some films twice at the cinema, but i completely get that now. Craig is brilliant.
Not enough Ana or Billy (theres actually a petition online for there to be more about Logan Ash) who both just get going & then we dont see them again. Malik was good but as i said earlier this was all about Bond. The Villain didnt get much to do in this i felt a bit sorry for him. He was there as an after thought if that makes sense like oh god we need to write a bad guy into this. Lynch was super cool too.
If you dont love Ben being Q, at any point in any of the bond films, we cant be friends. What happened to his date?
The number of easter eggs & throw back to other bond film before & during Craigs tenure were brilliant. & whod have ever thought that Feathers McGraw would be on the big screen, that made me laugh a lot.
The McGuffin was good, but i can see why it kept being delayed due to the pandemic. It makes sense now why that was the first one to be like nope not happening.
Do all Bonds have to go to or at least allude to Goldeneye (the place)? I guess they do.
The opening sequence is long but amazing before the credits, it works so well & then the song makes so much more sense now.
It didnt feel like it was over 2h40min & that is the sign of a good film. There maybe could of been some bits that were trimmed but i still think it would have been 2h25min. I just wanted it to feel more liek a Bond film if you get me. If youve seen it & other Bond films you will get me.
Dont get me wrong this has been worth the 2 year wait & was stunning & brilliant & i had a bloody good time, & i am really looking forward to seeing it again now that i know what we are getting & how its going to go down.
Thank you Daniel for being an Epic James Bond. James Bond will Return…
