Spoilers… but not really it’s real life

I always knew there had been a siege at the Iranian Embassy before i was born but knew nothing else. So a few years ago when i saw a trailer for this i thought oh this looks good & could be interesting, so today is the day. Its been added to netflix & i am up for seeing how it went down & why it was so iconic.

Lets talk about one of the best acting performances ever. Mark Strongs negotiator is the star of this film. You sit there & you watch him & what hes promising & how hes trying to buy time & get the hostages free & doing bargains. ITs so compelling whenever that phone rings & he picks it up & starts talking, so calmly & so easily, its a joy to see. You sit there & you just know he is doing every single thing in his power to get everyone out of their alive including the terrorists. Its amazing & stunning & is one of those performances that onces youve seen it you sit there for a little while afterwards & go yeah that was something special they pulled out of the bag there. Well done Mark.

Abbie Cornish as Kate Adie was spot on. Like if you ask anyone what Kate Adie is famous for they will say first female chief new reporter for the BBC & the Iranian Embassy. I mean the fact she will do whatever to get the whole coverage & the story is stunning for the actual person & when shit starts to go down as other press flee she & her camera man stay & own the news for the coverage of it. Its perfect.

Jamie Bell’s name is the top name for this film as its technically his SAS operation that plans the escape & takes them down at the end. I mean it add extra action to the film watching them train for the different scenarios, however it was more to turn this into more of an action film that it actually was. I mean it is good & enjoyable but it pads the film out by an extra 15mins that we didnt need. I would have been happier having a 75min film, then know that they have practiced taking out the bus 15 times.

knowing what our government is like now all these years later, its completely believable that they acted like that back then & that they were all like oh yeah we did it we saved them all its all us haha oh & a very quite shout out to the sas & lets not even mention the negotiators it was all us.

The fact the terrorist worked out they were in the walls hearing everything was amazing & added extra drama. I liked that. I also like the moment when all the hostages are asleep & they take the terrorists out & Then it turns out that that the plan that everyone goes nope thats not going to work think of something else it cant be that simple.

Despite the fact that i know they got the embassy back in 6 days it still didnt make the days inbetween any less tense, watching all those meeting & planning & working out how they were going to do it. I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of the film going whos going to gain an extra day today as he gave them 12 hours a day go so are they all going to make it out. Its tension built amazingly.

So if your going to watch this know a bit about the siege first & then watch. It makes it more enjoyable. I knew the minimum about it & had a nice time watching it. Its Mark Strongs performance that makes this such compelling viewing, hes acting his arse off & should be applauded for it.
