This is one of a few occasions where i had not read or seen the previous version & originals. I always had a rough idea what it was about. So worked out exactly where it was going from the first 15mins alone. That is sometimes a bad thing for a film, RomComs especially, but here there is actually some fun bits along the way to get to the point.

My dad irritating does this thing, which he still does, where he will flick the TV stations, and then watch a show or film for 20mins, which is already half way through, and then flick again. I know WHAT!!!!! we do quiet often yell at him for this especially as by 20mins we’ve all gotten into it. He was going to flick this one when i think my sister said, if you flick Alan Rickman as a depressed Robot i disown you.

Zooey Deschanel is the main problem with this film. Her character irritates me, why any man would want to go out with her with that attitude does my head in. Also its not a good performance from her. I dont believe she has areal relationship with any of the other characters at any point, both the 2 love interests, even when she hates them, or Marvin, when he saves the world.

Apart from this casting is floorless. Martin Freeman plays the role he was born to do ( before he got Sherlock & could grow more as an actor), they guy next door who you all feel like and sympathies with but is ultimately a bit crap & loves tea too much. (not that this is a problem as Brits we under stand). I always thought Mos Def was a cool man to convince you hes either an Alien or from Guildford. Alan Rickman & Warwick Davies Marvin the Robot is just so depressed he fabulous. foot note cheers Tara for the Marvin Speaker.Even Bill Nighy & John Malkvoich little cameo moments are well put together.

Then theres Sam Rockwell. One of the most underrated actors around. I believe him in almost any role you give him.  He just pulls it out the bag every time. This is no exception. A president of the Galaxy with two heads feed by lemons, 3 arms, an ego bigger than Saturn, a stolen space ship, stolen someone else girlfriend and two little mice. He seems like the kind of man you would despise and want to fail. yet here i sit saying he just fantastic. He even our does Stephen Frys Narration of the film & book.

I know all films need a villain, but Vulgons are really just doing their job so you cant really disagree with them. The poetry is bad, but if im honest i want to read the poetry made by the woman in Sussex.

Its not nice that Earth is being blown up. Bit bad really. 🙁 but not as bad as the bypass. dont build one in Martins back garden, build it on the Sussex downs so it actually takes me 20mins to get to work like it should do in the mornings.

Its a really funny sweet film. You dont need to know to much about the original to appreciate it. Its quirky enough & not too spacey, so wouldnt put not scifi fans off. Overall if you watch it heres a good piece of advice… DON’T PANIC!
