I should be at the cinema right now watching Cruella but a huge traffic accident has stopped me, so instead i am at home eating dinner. & i think its time to go & watch a quiet place again. You all know that my horror relationship starts with this film & its this films fault. but its still light & its not dark or late yet so im going to put this on in prep for the second one next week.

After i originally saw this at the cinema i remember my sister texting me while she was watching it at home, & going oh god oh god while it was light so she wouldnt freak out. So when it finished she said i dont know why you found that scary & iw as like love you were texting me for most of it & you were also not in a dark cinema with no noise at all at 9pm at night, she was like fair enough.

I love that nothing is said in the film really at all, it really does all rely on other sound & acting & the score & the jumps its amazing. Its so cleverly done & you sit there with all of you senses heightened going oh god what next whats going to happen. It just works & i think that because noone expected it to be that good, it made people go you all need to go see this film. & it really did spread the word. A film with only like 100 words in it can be that powerful.

The nail. Oh the Nail. Its worth than the birth. Every time ive seen this film be it at the cinema on demand or on DVD, the nail always makes me feel sick. Its horrendous. Its brilliant because its so quick & sharp like it going into the foot & it just works.

I love how every single little sound when its been deadly silent for so long makes you leap up in the air & go shit no. I mean after it being so quiet for so long & then that lamp falling over, its a bloody loud noise & just so ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. I mean the score when it changes too is so loud. Oh all the sound is amazing.

The fireworks for when she gives birth is brilliant what an idea. Its amazing. & then you think shes dead too until that hand appears on the shower. You do think oh god.

He really was onto something with that hearing aid wasnt he, he just hadnt quite worked it out yet. & its lovely that as much as his love & sacrifice saves the kids, which is sad & really emotional & always makes me cry, but his best gift was that he had a cure for the world to save them with the frequency & it took her to work it out.

They really werent the best parents were they. There are points where you just think okay yes the world is coming to an end & i have no idea how i would survive in that situation, but they are the crapest parents. Also use a condom. Having a little baby not the best idea. It there fault there youngest kid dies not the daughter with that plane.

I love the check everyone is still alive system & warn others of the creatures system too. That is amazing.

The creatures are a little generic if im honest, but its not about them its about the family dynamic & what you do to survive & protect each other.

I love the trip to the waterfall. I was scared like that kid that first time i watched it & they shouted. But what a brilliant way to explain how the sound works & a beautiful way to share the emotions. & then the old guy who gets himself killed afterwards, just as you think everything is going okay.

Do all American farms have that huge silo on their farms? Thats a serious question… & are they all filled with loads of grain? Im sure that all farm movies have one, its like snow in london, so i just want to check that it actually a thing or not? answers via pigeon post please.

I love how silent proofing that room should have never worked but did. I mean that is madness, it should never have worked at all but its a film so of course it does. & then they just dont notice the fact hat A)its flooding & B) a creature is in there with them. Idiots.

Looking at all the small details really does just remind you that this is a film about family & the little things in life you take for granted. Its the bits that like that makes films like these just feel more real & special & makes you wonder if you can survives this situation. & thats what makes Johns directing heartfelt, personal & full or purpose. Its what sets this film apart from others of this genre.

I love how it end with Emily Blunt being like you ready, lets go fuck some shit up with our new frequency & my gun & then it just ends. Let me know how they did please please please. I need to know.

It still bloody brilliant & an amazing film a few years later after its original release. It will be interesting to see how part 2 improves & develops relationships & survival of this family. I hope they get it right & it just nails it on every level. The problem is the bar is ridiculously high. This really is a very special horror film & one i think lots of people should watch. I think you will all love the heart & soul of this very personal & lovely, if scary, film
