I want to watch a Tom Hiddleston film, its been a little while & hes currently everywhere before Loki comes out. But im not up for horror or concentrating & im not feeling the MCU either so its time to get him as plasticine & against Eddie in Early Man, I mean long live the Age of Bronze.

As a brit i was brought up on Wallace & Gromit (im sure youve heard me say & type this many time in the past) its a right of passage for us millennials, so even if this film had been meh id have still sat here & type yea its okay, but its more than that, its bloody brilliant.

I love how its no longer a man & his clever dog but a man & his amazing hog. So clever so fun & just one of those yep i doth my cap to you sir. Its a formula which works with Ardman which i hope never changes. ITs brilliant. Especially as Hognob (yep thats the hogs name) is voices by Nick Park the creator. How cool is that. ITs even cooler when you see the making of video & the point where Hognob is giving Toms character a massage, Nick is actually doing that to Tom. What i would give to be in that mans place to be able to do that.

I love that it is an all British cast. It really is testament to the voice actors & comedians that we have to be able to pull this off. I mean im not even talking Eddie Redmayne, Masie Williams & Tom yet her but its an amazing supporting cast. But the main 3 absolutely on form. You just sit there watching them & okay Tom is putting on a dodgy accent but it works as its a kids film & you meant to hate the bad guy(which is why he so doesnt look like Tom) but it just works & they are all so fantastic in it. Eddie Redmayne’s innocent Dug is so beautiful.

Okay Stop motion & plasticine isnt high tech for films is it nope its not, so the film does suffer a little bit there, but it reminds you that you are watching an Ardman film every now & then & you remember its original charm & exactly where its come from & you forgive it entirely. Its us at our best.

The story is very much for kids, a tribe are kicked out of their area as there cave has got bronze in it to be mined, so they decided to win back there land by playing football. Its a very simple concept that as a film buff im like really, but as someone who knows how these guys work & how its going to play out & that everyone will smile at the film, it does just work & there are enough twists on the way to make it interesting.

The giant Duck, is bloody brilliant. It is, a little through away line at about the 25min mark ends up being really important & special. ITs fantastic.

Every movie needs a montage (montage {sung like team America}) & this films training video of the cave men & women learning to play football is brilliant. When you watch it you laugh but they when you remember its stop motion, you sit there & go wow, they did that. I mean its not the train scene in the wrong trousers the greatest chase scene in all of cinema ( find a better one you cant), but its still so clever & so time consuming that for a 2min montage, they do all of that.

The pigeon messenger, hahahahah what way to do it, wonderful.

The money is all their coins & then someone turns up with a dinner plate & asks for change. We all have a friends who does that, or did that as weve all now got contactless.

Slice bread this is the best thing since…. yep thats a line in this film.

what kind of witch craft or magic is this… Hognob then just casually slides the glass door open, wonderful.

The football commentary & the replays are absolutely brilliant. I love them & its so funny & i know its for kids but as someone who watches football its such a perfect sum up o retro commentary. If im honest the whole football game is a feast to watch, from the crowd, to the fact Dug is willing to save his family to the fact that Hognob saves the day & gets his dream of going in goal to help them win. Its just a brilliant piece. Even the twist & Tome ending up taking over as the ref then dressing up as the mascot to take the money away.

I love the rival football team, & that they are all all stars & not an actual team…. remined you of anyone in your leagues people or in europe (PSG, Barca, Real, Man City back in the day) its true they are nothing if they dont work together.

I love Mr Rock!!! (not to be confused with the Rock by the way).

The cave drawings of the past people playing football were amazing seriously stunning. I know thats one of the easiest things they filmed in this film, but they tell a story in themselves & its fantastic.

& youve got to have some Ardman Rabbits havent you, i mean its now not Ardman without at least one mischievous one appearing is it. Bloody love them.

Yes its for kids, but i am a child of Ardman Animation, so this film is for me. The age of bronze may not have won but Nick Park will always have my heart. Such a delight & perfect for this chilled saturday night.
