Time for another advanced preview screening, on a sunday night which is very rare. Usually sunday nights are when i tend to go see the classics being put back on but no for it to be an advanced preview is very exciting. I also know nothing about Sorry baby, ive seen the trailer once & theres a cat, thats about it, so lets see what its all about shall we.
Its actually one of the sparsest advanced previews in a while. Im guessing thats due to the lack of awareness of this film. It is mainly millennials. Also it started earlier at 7pm too.
Also tonight was a catch you out night. As unlimited members weve all been caught out or almost caught out once with a preview. Tonight was a night. 2 adverts then 3 trailers… about 10 people turned up at he 15min mark & the film was going feeling bad they had arrived late. Ive once turned up 10mins into trailers to see the kids price advert & been like ahhhh so close. Id say theres a 30% chance of there being minimal adverts & trailers before the film with these screenings.
Anyhow trailers were Eddington which is tomorrow, Life of Chuck which weve already seen a preview of & the roses (again).
& then the film started… Well that was not what i expected at all but was really intriguing.
So i have anxiety, i now fully know this & try to calm it down. But there have been a few occasions (but not recently) where ive had full blown panic attacks (one of which a complete stranger helped me with bless them) so seeing a millennial adult in this film suffer a full blown panic attack which at points has mirrored my own, actually was very scary but very affirming. Its good to know my own breathing technique is similar to that one. This character also had a complete stranger help her out & it was very beautiful & relatable to my own dealings with this. It was nice to actually hear them talk about it & it not be shied away from. Im glad that was in this film for my own sanity.
As well as that this film will trigger some people. At least it has a bbfc warning on the title card unlike another film with something similar in the plot thats out at the moment… You dont see the triggering & vulnerable moment go down but you feel the shame & fall out of it go down. Its also really interesting to see how other people treat them when they realise what happened to the lead. A doctor dismissive, a best friend supportive, those jealous angry, the law sympathetic to an extent, educators brushing it away like its not their issue. Its so interesting. But once again this shows that yes its not all men but the 90% of men need to educate the 10% who it is. Consent is consent & no means no. No matte what power they hold its still your choice.
This film also shows how your relationships change due to traumatic circumstances & how trust varies. ITs really clever. Especially with how the bath is used. Its her most vulnerable moment & then at the end it shows shes ready to trust again. I actually really enjoyed the last bath scene as the person she was learning to trust was ashamed of his manhood & she was like well we never actually really ever see it soft & they both realised how stupid that was before he let her into his life & him into hers. It was very clever & made you think.
The cat is rather adorable, not as useful to the plot as the poster suggests but still. Its a decent kitten & then cat.
It was really well written. It did make me laugh a couple of times, btu also made me want to shut off & not feel engaged at points due to the subject matter & the way some people acted. There was one character who the second she turned up i wanted to slap in the face then when something was revealed i was just like you bitch. You could feel the frustration & pain in the characters.
I am so glad i went into this blind. So im going to stop typing there & tell you all to go find it if you can because it is worth it. You will leave the cinema a different person, for better or worse im not sure.
