Secret Cinema Time. Think its the last one of the year. & i am forever grateful Odeon do a film at the same time & give out clues, because i am 90% sure this is correct. & if it is im going to be insufferable. You will all be happy with that though.
Sold out. My screening was sold out. I got there at 7:35 for the 7:30 start & was like damn theres someone sitting next to my seat. Every age too. Im impressed people & i was even more impressed that none of you left at the start, in fact a few people went yes. Thats what you want. I didnt know if people left through out though.
Trailers, One Life, Priscilla, Ferrari, Aquaman & Fall Guy. yes please to all of the above so much.
& then up after 17 seconds (yes i timed it its longer than the usual title card) came the name of the film & it started… usually i tell you what it might possibly be but it was only going to be one film & i got it right…
IT WAS NEXT GOAL WINS!!!!!!!!!!
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ooh yea i need to get rid of the Taika bias dont i… nah…
The number of Taika easter eggs in this was crazy. I think i got to 6 at 1 point & then stopped counting. I need another trip to see this film to get them all but ahhhh. There was no traditional 360 shot though not that i can remember which is a stple of his filming, but ahhhh it was bursting with references. Also the fact hat he starts off as the Priest… hehe if you know you know. There was 1 part where i laughed & the rest of the cinema didnt, clearly i was the only crazy person that dedicated to Taika.
Its problematic at time, but i think thats due to the subject nature of the film & the real life storys being told in it. YEs obviously bits are over dramatized to get more of an effect at times, but if youve watched the documentary it does make sense.
Taika has not lost his touch. HE can still make you ache from laughing & then 10 seconds later have you on the edge of tears. I didnt actually cry but there were a few moments when i welled up for sure. Thats also the magic of Fassbender’s acting too. IT doesnt work if he doesnt nail it & he does. ITs properly chilling because hes been a bastard all movie (but also funny) & then bang heart break.
This film was troubled both with the delay in release due to Covid & then the whole Armie thing will Will Arnette replacing him was inspired. He was so cringe but i loved it but he is so that kind of person in football who would exist & be a complete & utter wanker. We know who they are in the game & they can jog on, because they dont give a crap. Not sure it needed Elizabeth Moss in it, other then to get bums in chairs in the cinema, but im not sure that demographic would like this film.
Its well worth watching the documentary first. I did years ago, should have probably rewatched it before seeing this, but it really will help especially when you realise the training thing is bloody true as to what he made them do. Mental but it was the way he treated them.
The trans story is very provoking especially when the dead name is used. That being said in a screening in brighton was greeted with a ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh no you dont do that mate. It got a frosty response on & off screen.
Act 3 was so clever, showing how it went down in two different ways. I loved it. If you know the story its nota shock to you but ahhh its good when its nailed like that & even though i knew the outcome because well i do because i saw it years ago i was like come on get to the point dont leave me in suspense. Thats when a good film has done its job for sure.
I bloody loved that kid he was so cool too.
This isnt top tier Taika, im afraid. however it was so worth the bloody wait. Its been on my watch list for what feels like forever & im glad ive finally seen it & i laughed & felt joy & pride. It did feel like a proper good time & full of community making this movie. Yea i need to see that again & tell you all exactly all the Taika easter eggs for sure.
