Time for film number 80 of cinema club in 2018 & the last one of the year, & that honour falls to Mary Poppins, good on her.
Family Christmas cinema trip thats what this is. We always go & see a film at christmas be it just 2 or all 5 of us plus extended bits, but theres always some of us that go as a group to the cinema for a christmas film.
What was really odd was we went to worthing to see this & the family that live over the road from us pulled out of their drive at the exact same time, to which i joked ha imagine if there off to the cinema too. 10min later im picking up my tickets & guess what they are in the que behind us & then another 5 minutes later they came & sat down next to us. Strange old world isnt it, but we found out they do this every sunday at the worthing connought so good on them.
Proper mixed aged groups in there, the missing generation was the one just above mine & just bellow though which was a little odd but oh well.
Trailers we had Stan & Ollie (obviously its filmed at the cinema for crying out loud), The Mule & one other one which i think was Dragon part 3 & then there saturday morning pictures as to whats coming up soon ( all of which ive seen my bad).
& then the film started… & it didnt miss a beat at all, not one. It went for it & it stuck it out & it paid off hugely. Its got the old school disney magic about it.
Every single person in it acted their socks off. Everyone. Emily Blunt is just gold dust at the moment, & when shes up for 2 best actress nominees at this years oscars & she wins its going to be stunning. She wont win for this she will win for a quiet place, but she is really good as Mary Poppins. Only criticism is that the film was less about Mary & more about the ensemble, so she couldnt shine as much as she was supposed too. Ben is always amazing, & Dick Van Dyke yes sir you have still got it. But the person who shocked me the most that i had no idea about. Chris O’Dowd as the animated Dog, that was inspired. I was just laughing at that so much.
The penguins were back too. GET IN!!!!!!!!!!! Love those guys i aspire to be one of those penguins.
The long song about the guy in the book which they rapped was amazing, only problem was the last bit when they went to quickly. I wanted them to stop & go back to the beginning so i could follow the thread for the pay off but no. Therefore i have to buy this film just to know the story.
I cried. I knew i would but not that much. When she came out of the sky & landed i cried at that i knew i would i well up watching the trailer seeing that. But the one that got me really was the song about how noones really dead & that the losses we face are just else where, which they later reprised when Ben was upset. My Grandpa died a week earlier ,just before Christmas due to Dementia & Alzheimer’s, which i have mentioned a lot of on this blog this year as there have been a few films which have tackled & discussed this to get people to talk about this even more so this song has more meaning as that a nice place to think he hasnt gone but it out of place, & is up there with my Grannie going ha look at those daft buggers. So whenever i hear this song i think of him. (& this is why its taken so long to put this review up on here as when i keep typing about this i keep stopping to think about him or cry or cant get my words right.) It really touched my dad too, which make me feel even worse.
Lets move onto something more fun & lighthearted shall we, all those people on that bike haha thats brilliant them all balancing on it & the fact that the bath wasnt all CGI it was real hehe how much fun was that.
I left the cinema feeling warm & fullfilled & full of love & joy & a proper sparkle & magic around. Its going to be a grower defiantly but who said hte first one was epic straight away ( i wasnt alive so im just guessing that). But if you watch it you will thoughly enjoy it.

& Thats it thats 80 Cinema Club Trips for 2018 thank you all so much for sticking with me through this. We’ve had our moments of joy & wonder havent we… best go name film of the year then what ever that will be….
