Confession, until 2 weeks ago i had only seen the 3rd one of these film, & then i saw it was on itvx so i watched the first one so its really fresh in my memory, so lets go see how they do toothless shall we.
I left it a bit to late to get to the cinema, so much so that i didnt see how many people were in my screening or their age & i only saw 2 trailers, Elio (under marketed) & Smurf(nah)
& then the film started… Yea thats rather stunning.
If you watch this film & dont automatically want your own toothless then what is wrong with you seriously. I mean animated toothless was cute enough but this one… awwwwwwwwww just so adorable. Yes i couldnt be as goofy as the original but it was still adorable. I want one. So yea shame on you if you didnt want one of them or the little fat round dragons, i liked them.
Gerrard Butler still being his dad in the live action was a brilliant idea. He properly growled & shouted & really well was still the dad. Im so glad they made that choice. Maybe if your doing live action you should do this more often films, cast at least one person the same as your cartoon.
I did like how they did the dragons & the town that was cool. It felt like a new place but also was done in a smart way that didnt alienate the lovers of the original. That dragon cave was cool too but that last dragon was a little underwhelming if im honest, but i thought the same in the original film.
I liked the extended dragon training with Nick Frost, im down for him being every fighters mentor. I really am. He so funny, always has been. But yea it felt like dragon training was more integral that in the animation. Also RICKY BAKER IS SO GANGSTER!!!!!
When that score kicks in, good the goosebumps, its rather emotional isnt it, especially with the flight scene. I challenge anyone not to get a lump in their throat listening to that while they watch it.
The lair volcan thing was a little underwhelming if im honest but i thought the same about the kids film too.
So was this film needed that is the main question. Honestly no, but it was decent live action version. Also its so close to the originals release too, it felt like they were like oh god the kids who like these ar the start are going to be to old soon, quick lets remake it. Lets try compete with Disney. IT was better than some of disneys efforts this year but i dont think we needed it at all, but i have heard a rumour we are getting the other 2 as well.
It was still fun, sounded good & was still a good story but so was the original. Its your choice if you want to see actors or animation as to which you watch.
