When your friend tell you they have seen a film before you, and that you should go see it as its there favourite film ever maybe you stop & go… 1) hang on how did you see it before me 2) you dont like long films & 3) you prefer it to Pitch Perfect?!?!? yea i asked her all that, sorry babes.

I should point out i had booked this up before she recommended i saw the film so i was seeing it anyhow.

It did start at 5:10 which meant i legged it from my office to the cinema, seriously slow walkers on Wednesday didnt stand a chance in town i was on a mission to get there. Good i thing i did too, screen 8 the little one in the odeon was 75% full by the time the film started which is pretty darn good.

Cant tell you what any of the trailers where im sorry, was to busy catching up on my emails & messages from the day, i remember gold being one of them, & hidden figures which still isnt swaying me to go & watch it.

Well if you wanted a war film, you got a fucking war film. At no point did Mel Gibson want you to forget that, he needs to win best director as they way those battles were shot were amazing. The blood the legs the clinks the screams the silence, WOW!

Andrew Garfield has come of age at last, he just nailed it. Absolutely nailed it. Its a shame hes in a good year really he probably does deserve the Oscar, but hes not going to win it & if im saying that then hes defiantly not winning it. If it had been 2 years ago when Eddie won (sorry Eddie) Garfield would have had it.

I spent ages in the cinema going whos the captain bloke, no not Vince Vaughn, he was brilliant by the way. I do love it when he does serious films & then you realise how good an actor he really is. But the other bloke, so when i got home & googles it & realised in was Sam Worthington, i was kicking myself. He was the ultimate light & shade & was really good. The other bloke who becomes his friend was good too, give it a few years & we will be talking about him being up for some awards.

Also kudos to Hugo Weaving. Good solid drunk father performance, who comes up with the goods at the right time.

When i got home i did some googling as to how much of the actual battle & rescue was correct, ans was shocked that it was like 85% accurate, just the time frame was shorter really. That shit really did go down, it really did.

Im happy that now when its a real story, hollywood actually is now showing you bits of what did happen or the real people involved at the end. It does put it in perspective that this isnt just entertainment people lived through this.

Well Mel Gibson get your speech ready, youve got an oscar to pick up. This would be a solid war film at any time of the year, and im actually hoping that this is just the warm up for Dunkirk later this year.
