Part 2 of my cinema self care day, now its time for the 30th anniversary of Goldeneye on the big screen because why not. Also i was meant to watch this on sunday but i now have plans that day so i cant, so with the move around of stuff due to Taylor i can see this today.
With moving the car & getting popcorn, i got in with 2 trailers to go. My 5pm showing had about 20 people in there for it. I also notice i was the only woman in there for it which was odd. The Trailers i saw were for roofman (again teasing that it should have been out today) & then Tron Aires (nope).
& then the film started… its still bloody cool. Also if you want to read my actual review here it is.
Okay some of that editing & shots arent cutting it anymore in 2025. Im sorry it isnt. Some of it was so poor. I wouldnt expect that on tiktok & this was the big budget 1995 movie, that start of a new era of Bond. Thats where the big screen make you go oooh okay then, which is a shame.
Alan Cumming as Boris with his russian accent is a fucking legend, he really is. I mean he is dated now but i bloody love him & its so 90s but still trying to be cool. If you dont adore him, i feel for you.
The whole film is trying to be cool & be new bond, but also try to be a bit more fun after the Dalton ones (still the best Bond by the way {cineworld do those bond movies please}) but it doesnt quiet grasp it fully. He has minimal gadgets but still, Q has a lot in his basement.
There are some jokes that are now very dated, however Dench as M calling Bond a thing of the past is bloody brilliant. Im so glad that she got to do that & put him in his place, but she really was like i will send you out to die, but please come back. She knew what her drive was from the start.
Sean Bean dying then coming back then dying painfully is the most Sean Bean thing ever. He was a bloody good villain. Im not sure why he needed to be in that dumping ground though. God Save The Queen he delivers so well.
I am actually genuinely surprised no one (to our knowledge) actually has made a golden eye yet or something similar. Or maybe they have… hmmm….
Im glad i got to see this on the big screen, it was worth it. Cineworld next year please do casino Royale please, that would be epic in imax, image it. Its still fun, i mean after all it is a bond movie… no body does it better…
