I’ve had a bad day at work, something that happened that has nothing to do with me has put me on a right downer today & i cant get out of the slump. Sabrina the Teenage Witch & wine can only help so much, & the next potter film i have is one i dont like that much (because of what the film misses out) so im going for a Bit of Bond. Lets go back to Brosnan & eat cashews & pretend life’s okay.

I love the fact that Sean Bean is the villain & that he isnt really shown as it until half way through the film. You think hes dead & that is that & what a way to introduce the new 007 but then you are just so preoccupied with Bond & what hes got to do & the random shiz thats going on that you forget & then bang the hello James come out & you go ooooh yes of course, Bean wouldnt have agreed to do that for just the opener. I remember as a kid being show this (remember a small child in the 90s) & being like ooooh really & my parents being proud that i didnt see the twist coming. Something that now as an adult when i miss something & i see the twist later im just like ahhh why didnt i get that. I guess 8 year old me when my parents let me start watching Bond films would have been really like but hang on hes dead. You know what i will ask them tomorrow. HE gets the best last lines as a Bond villain too For England James (nah for me) Ka splat. Hes a good villain, maybe this is where my love for baddies comes from as well as Rickman… it would explain alot. It would also explain a lot that this is a very very long paragraph about it too. I think ive made my point clear here havent i. Get a villain right & it doesnt matter what happens in the rest of your film, its going to be good.

Im guessing revelling Dench as M was huge back in the day. I mean her death being kept secret for so long in Skyfall was huge too, but this would have been a turning point for cinema it really would have been. She is a bloody good M too. She doesnt take shit from the start doesnt matter who it is, shes just like nah im in charge go fucking die for your job James. good on you Dench.

The opening scene is a bloody good opening scene for Bond. Its not living daylights or Skyfall but its up there with No Time to die & you only live twice. ITs bloody brilliant & really is a oh so now what, & everything in it is so important to the rest of the film too. There are a few bond films where theres bits you dont need at all for the rest of the film, but this, this is good.

The Tank through Russia crashing into everything is really fun. I have fond memories as watching that as a kid & being like wow. I mean as a kid i didnt understand the cold war (hay i was born & on the day i came home from hospital the berlin wall came down not my fault as an 8 year old that i didnt get why that was so oh wow). As an adult i get it & it is cheesy at points but its. & then that Tank is going to stop the train, nah mate no way. Its a soviet train just after the cold war that could go for miles. (im just going to say i wrote this paragraph before everything that has happened in the last couple of months but its about the cold war & not now. Thoughts are always with the people of Ukraine.)

Alan Cumming is the perfect Tech guy. he really is. That is the most stereotypical tech guy ever in cinema. He is amazing & i love him & maybe thats why i type with a pen in my fingers, because of him. I have never thought about that before but as i put those words down i realised what i had going on with my hands. There is no reason for me to be holding a pen & type at the moment but i am wow. Hes got a lot to answer for. He is invincible, unlike his riddles.

The retro PCs hehe. but bond gadgets we are still waiting for in 2021, which would make our lives useful.

Framke is just there to be a stereotypical bond girl, with a bad name but then get killed off quite easily at the end of the day which is a shame, at least she gets the xmen role from this film (well for the first 2 any how {lets not mention dark phoenix}).

Of all the Bond films for him to go & stay at Goldeneye, im glad he went there in Goldeneye. But she has no chemistry with him at all until that exact moment. I understand near death situations make you do stuff, but it seems thats what all women fall in love with him once he does that.

Oh by the way im fine, thank you very much.

No one else realised stealing that helicopter was happening until it just didnt return, bloody idiots, what the hell were they doing. I mean i know its the 90s & people are incompetent & the plot needs it to move on so it can survive the emp, but still.

Justice for the person who had to archive the Russian library with all those records, its completely fucked now & no use to anyone at all. Bless them. As someone who used to archive & store things donkeys years ago, i felt the pain when that all got taken apart.

The worlds most expensive credit card had better not be rejected, & good save the queen… epic lines. Seriously good writing & had to be nailed perfectly.

The final showdown is interesting, there is so much going on from the second the watch is taken off his hand. ITs hard to sum up. I mean the pen clicking is so much suspense as you just can see Alex & James looking at each other going the fuck is he doing were all going to bloody die, stop it mate. So much drama. & then the fight & the escape is cool too. the 90s did love people getting into random helicopters & taking them over didnt they (i mean its not mi fall out but still).

Ive not actually talked about Pierce have i. I was about to finalise this review & then was like ahh ive not actually talked about Bond. For a first outing its good, but he is only as good as his villain, so maybe this set him off well. A good villain makes you come out & play. However even as a kid i wasnt worried about his outcome without knowing that Bond always survives… & is the hero of the story. a few to many cheesy one liners if im honest.

So over all a good bond film. I enjoyed my 90s nostalgic Bond. Pierce was always the first Bond i saw on TV & cinema, so i always have fond memories of his time as the character, despite some not being the best films. I mean its not crap no way, but when you are watching Bond & you want the villain to win & they steal the show, that says quite a bit doesnt it.
