Who wants an advanced screening? who wants 2 advanced screening in 3 days? me i do… time for round 2. ITs time to see Finding Emily… & yes i get the irony, however 3 different cineworld members of staff today went omg your names emily… honestly i loved it.
So back in screen 1 again, & yes i know this is out tomorrow but there are im nto joking 20 people in here to see this. Whats happened to the advanced preview crowd whats going on. I also got there a little bit late i had to get petrol but when i walked in as the trailers were starting there was only 4 people there.
Trailers, Tuner, Mando (tomorrow bitches ekkkkkkkk) Power Ballard (interesting as that was the last preview & this film was an advert before that one) Masters of the universe & some ewan mcgregor film.
& then the film started… that was adorable.
I laughed a lot at this. As i said earlier there were not a lot of people in my screening but there was maybe me & 3 other people laughing & the rest of the room was dead silent which really threw me a little. The jokes were very much well timed & paced throughout the movie. It felt earnt & summed up how messy modern life & dating get &the cringe moments are sometimes eventually funny, especially in your youth. We all had a friend who did a version of the people that are in this film or you were one of the people in it that you recognised.
The music choice to soundtrack it was very good too. A good mix of original songs & some late 00s anthems & some more recent cool stuff. Also the use of call me maybe… epic choice.
Took me forever to realise the guy running the student union was Phil Wang & then i was like ahhhhhhh i know him. Perfect use of sarcasm for him. Also he wasnt in it enough to be a distractions for me.
Considering most of the cast was unknown, i mean the girl is the girl from the nice guys & the newer mean girls film & minnie driver was in it for some reason, but it was well acted & didnt feel out of place or like this was an indi movie, it felt like everyone cared about how it turned out. The only time it didnt feel real was with the posh ex boyfriend if im honest.
It dealt with grief & loss of connection & trying to find your place in the world really well. Yes it got cliché at points but its a rom com, its meant to do that a little. Some films dont always acknowledge how messy & raw that sometimes is especially recently with american Rom coms, where as this felt relatable. Maybe due to it being set here or having a similar experience to what we all had in our youth makes it more real.
That being said act 2 into act 3 took a long time to move along. All the while they were doing one thing it moved organically, but then it stumbled a bit to long for certain people to realise things & it just dragged on. I was sitting there going get to the point come on peoples please.
I love that all the Emilys all got together & met up & were embracing all the other Emilys i enjoyed that.
That tattoo was very clever & also cool.
IS there any teen or early adult film where they now dont mention or do some sort of unhinged podcast or have someone crazy turn up who wants justice for the clout. They always seem to be there.
I do like the fact it was talking about policies & privacy &how it can be spied on or got into but it wasnt really that hard the breach of privacy. But seriously everyone at some point has bccd everyone by accident (okay not to this extent).
This was a nice adorable sweet & fun little rom com that i know people will talk about in years to come with fondness & love. I hope that people go see this in the next couple of days & have a blast with their friends.
