Time for what is probably the last advanced preview of the entire year. Eternity. The trailers looks lush & i feel like im either going to laugh my head off or cry my eyes out. Thats what ive been told by people anyhow.
Pretty decent showing tonight 60% full for this which is pretty good. It was much older people that usual.
I hate to say it but this was a while ago & i cant remember any of the trailers except for Marty Supreme.
& then the film started… This is what Materialists wished it was.
I didnt realise i was actually crying at a couple of points. I suddenly realised my neck & chin were wet. It really hit you in the feels when you werent expecting it. I mean you were expecting it but it was so emotional & clever in telling you the story you were watching that you got sucked into all of it.
Its such a lovely way to think about how the after life would be, its magical but it proves a point & shows a couple of things & makes you wonder what makes you happy & what you want to grasp at in life & what you want to do with it & hopefully after it.
Also the idea that you can pick who you get to spend your after life with is a brilliant concept. Its clever & smart. I also love that we saw them as an elderly couple to begin with i liked that, it showed that the real world still continued after one of them died & how long would it be before the other arrived. But how much lore is there that her first husband waited all those years for her.
It was funny, there were a lot of jokes & a lot of things that were simple but that in real life you would look at for sure. It not the typical rom com but its more a drama that has moments of fun & light relief if that makes sense, which is why i said on my opening line that its what materialists wanted to be.
Re-visiting memories from your past was beautiful i loved that. That really got in my soul & made my icy heart flutter. What an amazing thing you can do. Also seeing how they put them together was wonderful.
The alternative forever worlds are so clever. I laughed a lot at the smoking world because you cant die twice, i like that. Also how certain worlds either were sold out or were being rebranded & how certain worlds were no longer in fashion. The no men world though… bloody incredible, im in.
There were lots of life lessons in this which we can all take from this. There was brilliant character growth from everyone too & everyone seemed to understand why certain choices were maid & it just, it just worked.
It also was brilliant for people being seen & heard & feeling valued. I liked that. IT came from a loving place of care & love.
Yea this movie will make & break you in the best ways. I think its too soft & sweet to be considered for awards season but its rather beautiful & sad & just makes you want to tell everyone you care for how much they mean to you.
This film was watched on the 1st December… i can now confirm on the 7th December that a golden buzzer for 2025 has now been hit.
