Here is Pixars effort for the year… sorry didnt hear you… what do you mean you didnt know this film existed due to disneys piss poor marketing for it. Urgh. I mean its almost like they are setting up the originals to fail to put them on disney plus.. hmmmmm… or maybe im just being miserable & old.
Ive gone for the 7:40 showing of this. Kids films in the evenings are for sure the way forward now, i prefer this, less kids running about. If say there was maybe 3 families with teens or preteens near the front &Then a few odd ones & twos of us who love movies sitting near the back, but that was about it.
Trailers WICKED FOR GOOD! I actually went Elphie loudly! we also had smurf, the bad guys 2 (im so down for it) Fantastic 4, & that cineworld are doing a kids programming for the summer holidays. Also thank you cineworld theres no unlimited advert before a kids film which is nice.
& then the film started… Maybe dont go watch this film on the first day of your period in the heat when youve had a stressful day.
I cried over the fate of an intergalactic slug! yea i was that ruined by it. Now looking back at it, i think i still would have cried over the slug & maybe one more moment in the film, but not as much as i did due to my hormones. But yea Pixar love to make us blub dont they, thats their deal.
It did feel a little rushed if im honest. We started off with guess what a death off screen in pixar film what a shock & then we didnt build enough of one relationship then we got to act two which felt like it was 10 minutes & then act 3 i was expecting something even more before we got to that moment, which was always going to be the case. Im guessing kids arent going to see it coming but as an adult & film nerd i knew what the bad guy was going to do. We also didnt know enough about his aunt or the other aliens as well.
I want some clone goo please, that looks fun.
The visuals of that space station start off rather remarkable but then get a bit to bland im afraid to say. It was like someone said lets do this this & this & finish with that but that was it didnt go into any more detail than that.
The score hit me hard, soothing & emotional. I didnt need it going all over the top about it all. IT just was pleasant & sometime thats what a film needs. YEs a Zimmer score is epic but sometimes something gentle is what a film needs.
Its a very simple story, about grief & love & belonging in the world & accepting you for who you are & thats what makes you you. A very simple happy message for kids with a space adventure thrown in with it.
Now Disney why did you not market this. Its Pixars slowest box office ever i believe. All you had to do disney was put some of the stich money into this, because you spent millions on that, it was everywhere. even an extra 10million would have helped. No one went to see this & it just means your going to keep churning out sequels. Stop sending originals out there to die please.
It was sweet honest & beautiful this film. Its not tope tier pixar but it did almost exactly what i expected. The things i didnt like i wouldnt like as kid or as a film watcher. I just wish more of you had seen this so it got a bit more buzz & love.
