I never saw this in the cinema first time around, so Cineworld doing a Nolan season in August, i was so in for this so here i am at 7pm on a friday night before the long weekend, ready to sit there at the end & go i hate you Christopher Nolan.
It was almost full id say the front 4 rows had a smattering but otherwise the odd seat every now & then. Also it was mainly millennials who didnt see it first time round there was no one under the age of 25 there.
Trailers, The long walk, the conjuring, Tron, nobody 2 & the roses. Weird bunch to group together for sure.
& then the film started… Damn You Nolan Damn you! Also if you want to ready when i watched all of Nolans batman films in one day here is the review.
So ive never noticed this before but when Gordon is driving the batmobile & he clips another parked car on his drive he goes, ooopppps sorry. I have never noticed that. Im guessing the enhanced sound made it louder than just sitting at home hearing it. I had a little giggle at that.
The number of adults that all nudged each other or whispered when that kid appears before batman gets gassed by Cillian, going ahh its King Jeffry from Thrones. Its been a while since ive seen so many people do that in a screening. It was nice to see.
Cillian Murphy in the 20 years since this film was made has only just started aging in the last couple of years. Youd assume this was made in 2020 not 2004 for a 2005 release. He delivers his speech well. See the potential was always there people. Nolan & i knew it even then. A few people forgot he was in it. Someone actually went oooh this makes sense now.
If im honest i always forget about Tom Wilkinson in this. Hes so good as Falcone. So so good.
The score in this film was always iconic, but hearing it in the cinema was something else. Goosebump’s at points. Truly remarkable. This is why you go to the cinema peoples, you dont get that at home even with all the showing off stuff.
Being the nerd i am, its a whole hour until he says IM BATMAN! Sorry i had to do a time check. Im going to be even more of a nerd & tell you the ice scene is where Nolan later films interstellar almost 8 years later. Thats an underrated part of this film.
So many really good classic actors really put their faith in Nolan for this. Now people beg to be in a Nolan film but for Caine & Freeman & Hauer to all agree to it when they were big names to go be in a noir art house super hero film, it says a lot.
Im now livid i didnt book the other 2 up to experience them in the big screen again. I should have done & im now kicking myself. They are both completely sold out i checked as the credits rolled. But i am now very happy i have finally seen this on the big screen & have done them all.
Your a bloody genius Nolan… no wonder your always my top pick for the next film you make each time.
