Wes Andersons New Movie
Yes Please
See I can even so my intros like the great man, yep its time for Asteroid City, the latest marvellous movie from Wes Anderson, i hope. Im ready to be thoroughly thrown by everything i see on the screen bring it on.
Id say maybe 30 people in my screening with me. Wes is an acquired taste & the age range was from 50 to 70 for sure. All odd ones or couples ready to watch the weird man do his magic.
Trailers, Indi (which is weird because its out tomorrow), Barbie, Mission Impossible & i cant remember what the other one was, but it wasnt Oppenheimer.
& then the film started… Can someone come have a chat with me about this film? It the first time with Wes that im not sure what ive watched… Which is saying a lot.
So was this…
a message to how movies & tv & theatre are made?
a cry for help?
to cope with grief?
to show off those that work hard else where on the films other than just the stars?
proof that deep down despite all having different goals, one small thing can change everything?
or an alien movie?
Answers on a post card please, because at points watching this film i thought it could be any of them at all. So please if you have seen this film please come see me about it, i need to talk.
That all being said… I bloody adored the Alien (its in the trailer that theres an alien so thats not a surprise) & the person playing it ahhhhhhhhhhh.
I love Tom Hanks you all know that, but he felt a little out of place for a Wes Anderson movie, im afraid to say. I dont like saying that but he was. It was like Wes went omg i can get Tom Hanks now what do i do with him. He delivered. He was not bad dont worry about that. But considering most of the rest of the cast when Wes stuff goes down are all people who have been in multiple projects with him, it was a bit weird at points. Everyone else as usual, bailed it like they always do for Wes.
In my crazy world & life at the moment i really appreciated the calmness & beauty of Wes symmetry colours & styling. I needed that on this random Tuesday. It just all felt comforting & soft & happy & just to the point of weirdness where you go yes this is very nice indeed.
Those kids with their projects were so cool & fantastic & sorted everything out, i loved them so much. & the kids from the school & the 3 girls in the family. Having kids act well is hard enough, but this is a Wes film. So i recon for the really little ones, i think he probably just told them do what you want say anything that comes to mind & we will work around it. They were all good. & the projects the older kids had & the fact that no one after all of it cared who won the grant it was brilliant.
The story did resolve itself, but i was expecting a bit more drama to happen in act 3. But i like the way they did change it. That was sweet & showed what acting can sometimes be.
I also wasnt expecting parts of it to be in black & white.
& i loved that little bird too, that just kept leaping about randomly, that was very Wes.
What i watched i enjoyed & it was very clever, but i feel all my main questions at the top of the page are still needing answered. This is the first time ive not got Wes entirely, which has upset me slightly, cos i love his style. I get its an acquired taste but this is the first time ive gone hmmmm thats a bit to odd.
