Its time to find out who is the real agent Argylle is… if its the cat im going to go crazy, but i kind of would expect it. Yep its Sunday morning & im at the cinema at 10:40 to watch the next Vaughn film that isnt Kingsman, so lets hope its not as bad as all the critics have said.
Its half full in here, im impressed. Mainly millennials who spent there 20s watching kingsman or kick arse.
Trailers… Drive Away Dolls. This is the second time ive seen this on the big screen. Im still not used to it but ahhh. Also there was the Fall Guy, Madam Web, the iron claw & Ghostbusters. A right old mix up of films.
& then the film started… & then it got good & then it got weird & then i forgot where i was.
Now if you know me (which if you dont hi please go look at anything ive even written about Christopher Nolan on here please) you will know i love a good twist & a film that makes you think. I adore it. I love guessing whats going to happen & mysteries & who done its & stuff like that. & i love these type of films from the spy genre that take themselves seriously or not or fall within their own bracket. But with Argylle after the first twist in act 2 i was like oh okay then & then the next twist happened & then so did the next one & then we got to one point in act 3 & i genuinely couldn’t remember which side someone was on anymore & i was like nah we dont need this. It was too much. I genuinely had lost my care in anyone at that point, except the cat. I never get lost with films so this pissed me off a lot.
I do have to say going back over stuff after certain reveals was good but was also very tedious. Like it wasnt that long ago a few of those bit were revealed one was like 5mins before & we went back to see it which was like my attention span remembers that, maybe not the one from the first second of the movie but the one minutes ago i remember.
I know im a Rockwell girl, but he was easily the best part of this film by a country mile (other than the cat but we forget about the cat for the majority of act 3). He is so good & i think him being tedious was him being like okay now weve got to do this now. There is a point when he asks someone now what? I was nodding with him. He was exasperated too.
Cranston made it good too. Hes a good villain in this & its delivered on his evil ways but we needed a bit more of him at the end of act 2 when he kind of disappeared a little.
I know these films styles & how the director likes to make movies, but too much of the written story of Agent Argylle was mirrored in the real life version. It blurred the lines. I wish the real world had a bit more of a failed action sequence or showing it wasnt as glamours as what was written in the book. At points it clashed a little & was too much.
No way was now & then their song, it only came out in October. Bollocks. Also thats how you know your watching an Apple film that the Beatles last song is a prominent feature of a soundtrack song.
It had some very weird pacing. Like some characters or explanations werent dealt with in time. So much so that you didnt care about that person turning up. I get that these kind of actors are people who usually star in his films & he wanted them in it but it was like he was packing them in their for the sake of it. I wasnt down for that. Just get on with it. Did we really need that high profile a name for it to be a draw for the movie.
& that can be said for Cavill, Cena & Dua Lipa. If you are going to watch this film for Dua, dont. Its going to be like going to watch Drive Away Dolls for Pedro Pascal (we all know hes not getting out of it surely{also lucky america getting it in 2 weeks time ive still got 6 weeks to go}). At least Cavill gets to pop up through the film too.
Act 3 was bloody long & drawn out & about 4 too many final show downs which had you sat there going ahh its over now let sum up & then it not happening & doing it again. Know how to end a movie peoples please.
There is a mid credit scene, which if i cared more about the film id have been like ooooh okay then, but i was more frustrated at it. I get that its meant to be a tease for so much more but i was done with it all at that point.
The set pieces of action were good, dont get me wrong. They were fun to watch, if over the top at points but you expect that from these guys.
Yea this film started off not being serious to then being too serious to then just bombarding you with twist upon twist so much so that the last shot of the film was also a twist. It was just a bit too much. At he core of it there is a good story to tell. ITs just they went about doing it the wrong way entirely.
