This is my first trip to the Odeon in 2018 wahay happy days. Shame everything was running a little bit late as there had been a power issue earlier in the day which pushed everything back by 10minutes oh well. I got an extra 200 points on my premier card, shame that wont allow me to treat mum to Oldman on Saturday (maybe dunno yet).
Cinema was full of mainly older couples when i walked into the cinema. Think i lowered the average age to about 42 maybe… Still pretty busy in there, which was quite good.
Trailers there was a dual one for the shape of water & billboards, plus a standard billboard one, then there was The Darkest Hour & the Commuter which is really pissing me off that Liam Neeson doesn’t have his certain set of skills. come on Liam, sort it out.
Then the film started… Do i start this off with the elephant in the room? Yea why not its what you all really want to know & the reason as to why so many more people have seen this film.
Christopher Plummer was bloody good, really really good. Hes right to be up for all these awards, & outstanding performance despite the fact that 3 months ago he wasnt in the film. Which then in turn beg the question… How good was Kevin Spacey?! Seriously would Spacey had walked the awards this year? Would Rockwell be getting no recognition at all for his work? I really would like to see how good Spacey was just to see how good the original was supposed to be. Okay Elephant out the way.
Can we also take 5 seconds to appreciate how bloody good Marky Mark was. Hes going to get no kudos this award season at all. If this had been last year he would have been a show in for best supporting actor (but we wouldnt have know about the elephant so he would have come second to that), but he was so compelling as the CIA FBI guy.
Romain Duris was brilliant as the kidnapper, really believed his love & affection for the kid. Was happy that he got the correct outcome he deserved. That being said Michelle Williams was again just okay. She was meant to be the lead in this & not a side note, but i didnt find her performance compelling or moving or heart breaking at all & i love to get emotionally involved in a film. I cry at all films & yet here i was going well i guess shes alright in this.
Some one walked out of the cinema & someone screamed when it came to the torture part of the film… seriously people if you know the story you know this happens. It was properly grim but i liked that it was really really good. especially when the blood just kept coming.
There were some comic timing moments which made me giggle but all in all it kept me on the edge of my seat wondering if they were actually going to complete it all & if everyone was going to get there just deserts, which they did to a certain extent.
Loved the old telegrams they were cool.
It worth a watch people just to see Plummer & Wahlbergs performances, but unfortunately it will always be a large grey elephant in a room which will taint it forever, no matter what happens. Shame really strong performances but a victim of circumstances.
