Ive got one more additional day off for easter. I was going to use today as my sort stuff out day but i did that yesterday. So im up & at the cinema at 11:40am to see Air. A Ben Affleck film he’s directed himself, with Matt Damon in so that should at least be decent.
I lowered the average age of my screening. Id say everyone in there other than me was a couple over the age of 50 . I mean i get it, its a working day of the week but it was still odd being the only millennial in there.
Trailers Renfield (yes) Missing (so weird this is still an advert), A George Foreman film (maybe) & Fast X(yes all the eggs are in that basket at the moment).
& then the film started… well well well, i wasnt expecting that… thats 2 cinema trips in a row where ive thought that.
If you know me well you know my opinion on Ben Affleck & his acting performances. Hes not good unless he writes or directs or its Gone Girl. I have yet to find a good performance from him else where. So he & Damon i was like oh okay then lets see what happens… guess what IT BLOOD WORKED! Affleck directs himself well & he know not to be in it all the time & he does a bloody good job.
& Matt Damon, well hes still got it. Oh has Matt Damon still got it. There have been a few questions recently about if Damon has still got it… it never left. The man knows how to act & deliver something meaningful & it just works. & yes hes Matt Damon, & his face is recognisable but oh my he is so believable in this. So good.
This film was all about greed & corporate companies & working all for the money, but it also shouted out to the little guys. It told you where Nike came from, it showed their principles (although there was one point i was like no i dont need to see moto 7 now, i was enjoying the movie) but also the normal every day people who work for them & how if this deal didnt pay off so many of them were out of a job &how they all put everything on the line for this one kid & his trainers, to help support another dad who wants to give his little girl trainers.
I didnt know Viola was in this film, that was a nice surprise half way through i was like ahhhhhhhhhhhh yes this is going to up itself here for sure.
All the meetings that he describer & then how it went down in all those meetings. I laughed a lot. A little throw away section of the movie that was so important to show how the other companies worked. I mean yes i get that Nike is now the same as that but still. Calling them out on their bullshit before we even got to it i loved.
When he does his pitch to get Michael… wow. I hope that was real or it was something similar. Because it was good. & i loved how it showed his life as a montage while that all happened & what he went through which made him an icon. It ws brilliantly done & whoever edited that, they deserve a fucking bonus, because im pretty sure at the end of this film year i will still remember those 4minutes of cinema. Im certain of it.
How many times in the film was the line IT WILL GROW ON ME said? Was there a bet to see how many. I recon there was at least 4. By the last one in the film i was laughing about it knowing it was coming.
The random bit of mottos & facts & conduct that happened were a little off putting. I think at 2 points it made sense but the rest was a bit like nope we dont need that now.
I learnt some NBA rules. I mean yes this is set in the late 80s early 90s but still. I didnt know the shoes has to have a certain percentage of white on them thats very interesting in deed. I mean its not a sports film, if youve gone this to watch a sports movie or a Jordan Biopic, its not that film. But the rules & the way they do the draft is very interesting. I learnt a lots about 80s & 90s basketball from this film.
It was just a pleasure to watch this film. If you want a well acted film, you cant go far wrong with Air. It enjoyed it & yes i knew where it was going, we all know about Air Jordans, but i was surprised at the journey to get to that point. This will be a hidden gem that in about 3 years time someone will sit there & go, did you see Affleck’s film about Nike? It was solid wasnt it?
