Having a weeks holiday means i can go to the cinema whenever i want, however knowing that no one wanted to clash with Nolan there was a lack of new films out this week, so its time to see if the live action version of Moana is welcome or not (do you see what i did there).

As i walked into my 12:15 screening at 12:30 a little girls cant have been more that 6 pointed & went look mum look shes got baby yoda on her leg. I smiled as i kept walking to my chair. I did kind of want to correct her & be like hes called grogu but i didnt want to start an argument with a small child i dont really know.
Also was very odd being the only odd one at a screening which was with families of little kids & grandparents age. Oh well.

Trailers, pawpatrol (nope) Cat in the hat (yes but only for Matt Berry) Hexed (looks weird) & then a forgotten island film which i still dont know what its called. & then we had the screen x advert which is weird as this is now 2 films in a row that ive been in the screen x screen which have screen x applied to them but not the viewing i have picked very odd.

& then the film started… hmmmmmmmm

There is nothing wrong with the story at all. It is still Moana, it is still up lifting & clever. However i do not understand why we had to make this live action. All the while the film is animated & she is a disney princes, it works. However CGIing the animated tattoos on the rock, having the sea act like that & looking at a few other things decided action wise, just felt a little too forced. & yes you can say but you accepted scuttle from the little mermaid, yes i did, but that was one of the moments where i was like hmmmm okay. It just felt like it had been stripped of the disney magic that made the original so inspiring & wonderful. Yes she was still a disney princess & moana but it just left me feeling like yea this isnt right, somethings not adding up here.

The Grandma got a lot more todo at the start, she was still cool i liked her. But lets be honest the real star of the show was Hei Hei… the original boat snack. What a legend. Although im still not sure if Tudyk voiced him this time round or if it was just random scream they had oh well.

As a what we do in the shadows girl & a taika lover (originally his idea which disney took) im so glad Jermain was back as the big Tamatoa. But even that underworld scene with all the shiny stuff didnt hit the same either.

I get they wanted the rock to be in it still & hes not getting any younger, but you could have got him a better wig than that. I got frustrated with that & that they had no issues drying off quickly after falling into the ocean again & again, the hair always looked good. Also no peoples eyebrow after an eye roll or sarcastic shrug. Mate, its clear, do it, even your animated version does it.

All the songs dont hit the same either, like Your Welcome should be a toe tapper & happy but i was just sat there going oh is is this it. The magic had gone a little.

Also actual moana makes me cry, this one i did well up at one point but i didnt actually cry, so that says a lot. I was ready to blub as well but no it didnt happen.

Kakamora look liked they had been created so they could be sold in disney stores for decades to come, not be menacing ocean pirates.

Im going to stop typing, i feel let down. I feel like disney missed the point of the magic of the first & went ahh this is the most watched thing on disney plus lets turn this into live action now. It just didnt hit home the same & its not like im a massive fan of the original, but i see its qualities, which it lacked here. It tempted us with something shiny & didnt deliver, we were duped like the crab.

My advise, watch the original carton at home on dvd (or disney plus) & have fun with that, because its not even been long enough yet to say its nostalgic. Such a shame.
